Never even crossed my mind that they might bother people. I constantly refresh them, even in cities, as I really like them and feel they are a part of the class identity.
Priest, mage, warlock and druid are my 4 main classes, and yeah, two of those have these shields.

My easy solution would be a Glyph. For people that like the old aesthetic and one for a new look.

I can’t remember the spell but it was one of the most beautiful spell effect in game, really delightful to witness, it was like prayer of mending it would bounce off allies, flying through the air as it went from one ally to another, like shooting star trails, awwh it was beautiful

Didn’t they update the mage barriers or am I talking nonsense? They could even make it look somewhat like them but in a yellow/white colour
Ok now I’ve seen the ones above they look much better than the mage/priest ones. Would be so easy to implement as well and could be a glyph if people don’t want to use it
they need to atleast increase its size so it wouldnt clip that hard

Unfortunely this game is moved by nostalgia and cool new animations are never on the menu for long.
I have seen some new and cool animations on ptr and beta that end up removed cause of nostalgia.
