Just dinged 60 as Paladin - Respec Holy or stay Ret for PVE?

Hi forum

I just dinged 60 as my Paladin and I am wondering whether I should respec to being a pure healer (Holy) or stay as DPS (Retribution) for a while, so I can do some solo questing.

I do enjoy healing a lot and that is what I am planning to do in dungeons, but I am not sure if respeccing right now is a good idea.

Are there some crucial quests or pre-quests that I need to do now to get some pre-BiS or other important things, before respeccing to healer?

I am only interested in important quests that that have some valuable rewards like items, but frankly I am tired of solo questing and I don’t care much for normal quests that only give gold.

I did the killing pre-quests for Tirion in EPL that lead to “In Dreams” quest-line but I did not finish the quest-line itself. I am still on “Of Lost Honor”. (And then I heard it ends in Stratholme and gives me a nice ring).

If you think I should just go Holy now, what do you think about the build where I max out Holy tree except for “Divine Strength” and “Improved Seal of Righteousness”, put points in Protection tree up to “Blessing of Kings” and finally put the remaining 5 points into Retribution’s “Improved Blessing of Might”?

I just want a “popular” or “generic” build that is sought for in most PUGs (I am still without guild), when running pre-raid dungeons like: LBRS, UBRS, Strat, Scholo, Dire Maul, primarily to get geared up.

Regarding epic mount: I don’t really feel like I need it (yet), and I don’t plan on PVP’ing much, even though I do play on a PVP server.

So I don’t mind killing things slower than usual if it means that I can be better at surviving gankers’ ambushes.

Any other advice, please?

Level 43 currently and I’ve started out as Ret as well. Respecced Holy in the mid twenties level wise, cause I kept running out of mana.

Leveling as Holy is pretty slow solo wise. But it’s nice in groups. Going for a 31 Holy / 20 Ret build. 31/3 so far :slight_smile:

I solo most of the time so I want those Ret talents to improve my dps a bit. Together with some useful talents like Vindication and Pursuit of Justice.

Next to that I do have most of the good stuff from Holy when it comes to healing. Works fine for me.

Holy:
5/5 Divine Intellect, 3/5 Spiritual Focus, 5/5 Improved Seal of Righteousness, 3/3 Healing Light, 1/1 Consecration, 5/5 Illumination, 2/2 Improved Blessing of Wisdom, 1/1 Divine Favor, 5/5 Holy Power, 1/1 Holy Shock

Ret:
5/5 Benediction, 2/2 Improved Judgement, 3/3 Improved Seal of the Crusader, 3/3 Vindication, 3/5 Conviction, 2/2 Pursuit of Justice, 2/2 Improved Retribution Aura

But I guess if you want to become more of a full time healer, you can’t go wrong getting Blessing of Kings from Prot. Not sure if Improved Blessing of Might is worth it though.

Then I think you can just finish whatever 1-2 important quests you have left in Holy. Especially since many of them (“In Dreams” indeed, Ony attune) have significant group/dungeon parts.

Ah yes, I forgot to say that I got attuned both to Onyxia and to MC.

So I guess, Holy it is then :slight_smile:

The only reason to have a Retribution paladin in your raid is if he’s going to wield Nightfall. That’s it.
