Hey all!
As the title says I have just made the move and I will be looking to move physically to Europe as well in the future. and I’m kinda nervous about this. (Restarting all my progress and having to build new RP connections)
I’m wondering if anyone has any tips for a new player in Argent Dawn. Should I go Horde or Alliance? What are some RP tropes you guys hate seeing so that I can do my best to avoid creating them ! Or what are some type of characters you wish there were more of to RP with?
I’m very excited to start this new journey and can’t wait to RP with you guys !

Hello Aledore, and welcome to Argent Dawn! I hope you will enjoy your time on this realm!
For advice for new players, you can check out Acrona’s Argent Dawn Roleplay Compendium in the stickied post. It has information about finding roleplay, hubs, and the like.
For Alliance vs Horde, I personally very rarely log in on Horde characters, so I cannot really say what the RP situation is there. From what I heard, the Alliance is more numerous and Horde RP is more guild/event oriented than having persistent hubs like Alliance RP does, but don’t quote me on this. Ultimately, I think it’s best to just play whatever race you want to play; you will find RP either way.
As for RP tropes to avoid, there’s a long thread on red flags in RP, but personally, I think it’s best not to overthink it and just learn by doing. Ultimately it’s about what kind of character you want to play, rather than what others want you to play. As long as you’re respecting the lore and the other players’ agency, you should be all right.
So think of who you want to roleplay, create your character, and I hope to see you in-game sometime!

Welcome Argent Dawn!
The Horde or Alliance question depends on what you want out of RP. The Alliance scene is much bigger, so if you are into more casual hub RP, love having plenty of social events to go to, or just don’t care whether you play team red or blue, then Alliance is probably the place to be. That being said, if you are a Hordie at heart, there’s definitely RP happening on the red side as well. You may just want to join a guild for it or at least look a little harder to find it.

Welcome to Argent Dawn! Along with Acrona’s compendium that Lintian linked, I’d also recommend the upcoming Arcanist Forum next weekend that Acrona is hosting if you’re itching to dip your toes into mage-themed RP with a focus on discussion. It can be a good place to learn, flesh out your character, and build connections with other mage characters if you RP one yourself.
It can be daunting to get into a whole new community without any of your past connections, but we’ve all been there at some point. People on Argent Dawn are generally helpful enough when you let them know ahead of time so they know to accommodate you!

Hello there! As someone who plays on NA realms occasionally myself, welcome to Argent Dawn! I hope in time you’ll be able to rebuild all of your account progress. If only it was shared across both realms, I know the struggle!
You’ve already been given some pretty good advice, but I can recommend the Argent Archives if you aren’t familiar with it just yet.
https://www.argentarchives.org/
It’s a nice little website which tracks most upcoming roleplaying events, and you can publish your own stories and character bios.

If you’re wanting to join Horde side, you’ll often find RP in the Crossroads during weekends, and sometimes in the Valley of Honour. Silvermoon and Eversong Woods have also become more popular in recent weeks. I’d recommend installing Total Roleplay and using its scan function on your map to find fellow RPers!
As was already said, Joining a guild could be a good option as well.
The Horde RP discord server is also a great tool for finding RP here! It has a list of many upcoming events.
Sadly the forums won’t let me post an invitation here. But someone with a higher trust level might be able to?

Are you trying to start a fight over here?! That is like asking who is the strongest superhero, sir! My recommendation is, seeing how you’re familiar with WoW RP yourself, to consider the concepts you enjoy, and start from there.
My question to sum it up would be: what are you looking for? Are you looking for an active community with whom you can role-play every night? A moderate to low amount of role-play, with a crazy event now and then? City role-play or the more dragon slayer archetype?
Also. On the forums I can tell you already made a good impression. People on Argent Dawn are usually welcoming, but… ultimately the community is very diverse. Each group has their own etiquette: from Duskwood to Suramar, you will find everyone’s approach changes a lot, so the best way to learn is to take a jump, and [hopefully] have fun!

Welcome!
You pick the right time to restart, you get all mog drops doubled this month.
Since the others have posted all the useful links, I’ll go with something more minor but important nonetheless: There’s no (( ooc chat )) in the middle of RP around here, it’s probably the major cultural difference when it comes to /say etiquette between US/EU realms.
And I’m not preemptively throwing you a stone, it’s only so you may avoid yourself the headache of realizing you could have been ignored after doing that.
Enjoy your stay on AD!
