As you can see, I’m not a very high-level player, so I’m a bit confused as to what happened. My friend and I went into a dungeon and his screen started acting wonky. He wasn’t able to move his character around much for a minute or so, but everything looked fine. Then, without warning, he was kicked. I understood the kick somewhat, but I figured the group would have said something to him or me first. It got even odder in that just a few minutes later (whilst I’m helping to eliminate an enemy- in the middle of the push, one initiated by someone else), I was kicked, as well. At first, I thought that there was a glitch, then I was that I was “removed” from the group, followed by, for the first time, seeing the “Dungeon Deserter” in the far, upper-right corner. I couldn’t understand what happened and was punished for something I’m still not sure as to why for (30 minutes is a quite a long time to be banned for, especially when the reason isn’t clearly stated- no one explained as to why in the chat… they just kicked me. I wasn’t pulling, and l was following our tank in, but not getting too close to the enemy, as a ranged-DPS should…).
Any ideas or suggestions? Could it be that I’m a lower-level player and it was an elitist thing (which won’t help WoW’s slowly-dying player-base) or is there something I may have missed? I saw on the US forums that there are people who just kick randoms just for fun (which is really immature and quite rude, especially when that person is paying money per month to play this game, too… it’s really selfish and not very nice). If I’m missing something, please let me know. I’ve never had this happen, including on my US account (which I hadn’t played on in a few years, but only got up to about level 60, I believe).
Thank you to anyone who can help me to understand this more (sorry if I’m not getting something that should be obvious, if it is),

It is pretty much the “rush rush rush” mentality or “elitist” that dungeons need to be cleared asap and if you go afk even for 20-30 sec = you risk kick.
Ofc it does not happen all the time but it does happen.
A dungeon kick can be initiated by anyone in the group after the dungeon has been in action for so long. Unless the person is offline then a kick can be initiated faster.
You will have had a pop up appear on your screen asking whether or not you wanted to kick the person. The group then can vote and majority rules. They are under no obligation to speak to anyone first. The reason for the kick will have been given by the person initiating the kick. You will have seen that reason on your vote option when the vote kick came up. Sometime they are real reasons other times it’s just gobbledegook.
The system usually blocks the same person from being able to initiate a second vote within a short space of time. So it will have been someone else in the party.
Reasons to vote are completely down to the group itself. Some groups are patient, others are not. It’s a team effort. I’ve only kicked afk or really rude obnoxious players from groups.
A random kick isn’t really anything to worry about unless it becomes a frequent occurrence.
People can kick you for anything. Literally anything, they could kick you because they don’t like your transmog. It can be that petty.
The deserter debuff is a rubbish system, it’s designed to punish players who grief I think or who purposely act up to get kicked so they don’t have to leave a dungeon they don’t want to do and get the debuff, kicking them gives it to them anyway so it’s supposed to encourage better behaviour. Unfortunately, as you have found out, it doesn’t quite work that way and unfairly kicked people also get punished.
There are no public statistics on it, only blizzard have any details and but I do not believe wrongful kicks are common.
I’ve been playing since TBC and level frequently and kicks are not common. I can also count on one hand in all those years of playing how many times I’ve been kicked.
Then say in chat something to signale you or your friend have a problem. Some people probably believed your friend was just ask. This will reduced the odds of getting kicked if it has to happen ever again.
It is an online game: you get nice people or toxic people. You’ll have to accept It. Sometimes you just meet douches. How was your dps? Might be the reason why you, the mage, has been kicked. I don’t find it valid since mages at lower level don’t deal much, especially from a new player, but oh well as I said people are just being people.
I would’t worry too much about it. Just do something else and queue again later, and you will find different people. Sometimes when leveling a character, I get a bad streak of douches in dungeons, so I just stop and do something else, then return later.
well, first off … you knew your pal was having trouble but you didn’t say a word to the party about it. They might have tolerated it if you had said … but you didn’t, so they kicked him. Sounds perfectly fair to me.
As for I was following tank but not pulling etc etc and all of a sudden I was kicked … most messages like this that are posted will later admit they were doing something wrong that they forgot to add to the original post /liar … but there are indeed some that were unjustifiably kicked. So, we don’t know if youre a liar, running a bot or are an innocent party.
from your words, Im inclined to believe youre lying but that’s just me.
All in all, your pal should have been kicked and as you probably whinged about it, they kicked you for being an annoying whingy kid. Just a guess
I agree on your first 2 statements but the 3 one is incorrect, because sadly that is the reason some people leave the game I quit playing on this char for that reason tbh.And I ended up playing on my chill casual to medicore realm where I actually started .
Sorry for you experience with toxic players. They’re the result of wannabe elitists who feel that they’re pro for speed-running through normal levelling dungeons like as if they’re mythic+. Don’t pay any attention to them and queue up again when you get the chance because not every dungeon is full of edgy zoomers who have the attention span of goldfish.
Also yes, the vote to kick system is very flawed and needs an overhaul, but the players who claim to have never been kicked will tell you otherwise because of their ignorance and bias. “It hasn’t happened to me so you must be lying or doing something very wrong!”
I have screenshot proof of players abusing the kick system for their own amusement, but I can’t post images or links on these forums because I don’t kiss enough a@#.
But that’s nothing new, if you farmed rep for cenarion in TBC you would run Steamvault for days straight and it made a big difference if a run took 30 mins or 1 hour.
Call me selfish, but if i’m leveling my 4th toon, i rather spend half the time in a dungeon. If you’re new to the game and communicate that, i will gladly help you but if i call for a BL for the 15th time and you continue just pressing 1 button and pulling 1k dps, i will get slightly pissed.
Yes, it’s just normal and yes, it will only make a few mins difference, but if i run 4+ dungeons/hour for a whole day, it will safe me up to several hours of grinding.
Basically what he said.
If i finished over 60 FH M+ keys, i don’t want to spend 1 hour in a normal/HC freehold.
