Kicked from Island Expedition - Deserter!?

I joined an Island Expedition in progress, about three quarters through, and played until the end (8996/9000 azerite) when I got kicked. Not only did I not get any rewards from the expedition, I also get a 30 minute timeout from joining any kind of queues?

Because I just happen to join an expedition with presumably two friends playing together, they can indiscriminately decide to kick me and I also get punished not only once but twice over for it?

How is this reasonable? Why am I the one getting punished? I didn't play like an idiot, I didn't troll them, I didn't stand idle. I didn't say a single word and neither did they. I did nothing wrong.

Fix this.

It dont even have to be two friends playing togheter. When leader vote kick someone there isn't even a vote to be had. Me and a guildy joined one today and the other guy kicked my guildmaster. Guess i got some harsh language at me... O.o
The issue is Blizz is giving premades too much control over 3d guy.

(while in random pack as mentioned above this can happen too, it is much rare case and should be fixed with just removing leader-solo-kick-decision (if this is the thing, never checked)

I've racked my brains about it a bit and obviously we can't ask kick option to be removed all together.

What should be done, then, to balance thing out - is to give same kind of control to 3d guy. As premade friends have hard coded right to not play with any 3d guy, said 3d guy should have hard coded right to not play with premade friends as well.

Make it so that while IE is counting down anyone can leave instance without getting deserter. Then people who have negative experience with premades piled up will simply have the option to avoid puting themselves in disavantage.

At the same time as feedback accumulates and abandoning premades becomes more often premades will too learn how to behave and stop abusing this function.

There are other solutions as well - for example blocking most toxic behaviour and disabling vote-kick for any IE that lasted over 2k score unless a party went afk (you managed to get to 2k, it means 3d guy is sure tolerable eh).

The current state of vote-kick comes nothing short as lazy design and makes one wonder if calling Blizzard small indie company is actually not so far-fetched.

I just now got into the same situation... Joined an expedition with a raid equipped person and a 113, after a couple of minutes I was kicked and now I can literally do nothing interesting for 30 minutes.

Been through the zone quests twice now... dont wanna do it a third time.
This is so annoying :(

Why the !@#$ would you kick someone in the island expedition.
Happened to me also (got kicked) for no reason. Just to realize I couldn't q again.

Happened to me, because I wasn't following the other two. They didn't seem to care that I was doing 100% more damage than their combined dps.

The queue ban is stupid. When it takes less than a minute to get a new group.

This is a serious problem. I’m using this to level up. Deserter buff leaves me unable to play the character for no reason except to fuel some toxic player’s sickness.

The deserter debuff should be removed from island expeditions!
It should never have applied to them in the first place.

Yeah, just had this happen to me as well. I joined a expedition already in session. Less than four minutes left. Only one person there and the Horde were in the lead. The one person that was there when I joined was way across the island and I started making my way to them. Someone else joined and was back on the boat. That left me halfway between the two players. I stopped running to the leader and worked on clearing the area I was in while I waited for the new player to make their way to me. The leader sent out a sarcastic message to us about playing together. I again started to make my way toward the leader, but before I reached them I was kicked. I am guessing that the reason I joined an expedition midway was that the leader kicked previous players. People are weird, so I wasn’t too upset. Then I saw that I was given deserter. The a-hole leader likely kicked at least three players because we were not running the expedition how they wanted it to be run. I was doing my part. I just wasn’t doing it next to the leader. It would be good if deserter is not an option for expeditions or at least make it more like 5 minutes.

I have to agree about the redundancy of the deserter in IEs. They don’t take a lot of time and let’s be fair, most people who do higher than normal don’t really slack off.

The main issue in my opinion is with how the IEs were structured. You either farm AP or cosmetics and this creates the divide in the playerbase. A divide that Blizzard acknowledged recently and are trying to fix.

Then again the IEs are fundamentally flawed in my opinion so the only way to fix this is to either reduce the penalty time of the debuff for IEs or to remove it completely.

I joined one (last one of the week for the cap) and just wanted it done, but ended up in the group with two friends who were only farming the rares. They literally said to me at the start “If mine/loot/kill a single piece of azerite you will be kicked”. I mean come on… they arent even hiding it, they KNOW they hold the power and you are their b***h for the next 30 mins or get 30min debuff. Its complete and utter nonsense.

Honestly if I was on QA of Blizz and they dropped a piece of paper on my desk that said IE would have deserter and no way to solo queue, I would have ripped it up in front of them. What a ridiculous idea.

this has happened to me also, around 2000 in my group where just mob farming and the alliance where 600 ahead so i decided to go get some of the fissures as its quick and yeilds alot, then i get accused of afk’ing and not helping so i get alot of harsh language thrown at me and got kicked instantly no vote… and then got deserter… and more harsh unnessicary messages from the person who kicked me after an ignore i had to wait 30 mins to do litterally anything else at all… this system is utterly ridiculous it should be changed that if you get kicked from something weither deserved or not you shouldnt get deserter. you should only recieve such a punishment if you leave not forced out against your will being accused of something you diddnt even do… its a stupid system should definately be changed from a short time looking on the forums i can see it happens to alot of people and its not a massive problem like azerite armour but its still a problem that stops players that pay for the service from doing things for Half an hour which is a decently long time when the player diddnt deserve the “ban” this should 100% be fixed as it is tottally wrong.

Same. They told me I’m only allowed to mine for some reason. I shrugged this off, after ~10 years of playing this game i’m desanitized to retard bull*** and started doing my thing. They kicked me, and got a 30 minutes deserter.

You got 1 day to fix this blizz (and this is me being generous), because at this state, your game, World of Warcraft is UNPLAYABLE. I can get around everything. I even hold myself to bash BFA to the ground, but idiots holding control over me, at a game I pay to play monthly I cannot stand.

Have a nice day.

Not already, but it’s happening, expansion after expansion toxic people are overtaking the game, like every other though.

The derester debuff is there because at the start, when it wasn’t, ppl just demanded being kick instead of abandoning, because the later granted the debuff but the former didn’t. If you didnt follow demands, said person would harrass and disrupt the group to force a votekick.
The problem is not the debuff per se, but the abuse of the votekick system. I think there’s a limit of votekicks per hour, but it seems too big. Maybe limit it a bit more would be good.
Also, they should force to write the reason on the textbox for the votekick and show it to the target when kicked, so they know what they did wrong (if they even did).
They way it works now you are just being kicked and most of the time you end wondering why (“did i do low dmg?”, “didnt i tail the tank into certain death and that upset him?”, “was i being an a**”) and no way to correct it.
Another thing they should do is report back the measures they took after reports. The current feeling is that reports do nothing, because after a report sometimes you end up in a random group with the reported, wich should NEVER EVER should happen

The exact same thing happened to me just now (again, for like the 10th time in total) and I’m furious! How is this even fair? How can it be okay?!

Me too on my belf hunter, for the first time. I got kicked literally a couple of seconds before the win. The group was doing really well, and I was in combat when I was kicked. One of the others mentioned loot that dropped from a certain mob we killed. No one spoke other than that. I logged out at that point.

I was just minding my own business, clearing everything I could find. Then I get kicked without anyone saying a word. Why the hell do I get a 30 minute deserter for this? I was probably getting more azerite than these 2 asshats combined. What a dumb system.

Yeah, you gotta remove the Deserter debuff from islands. It’s god damn stupid. Even if you argue that bots would take over the islands (for whatever reason), that’s no reason to impose such a harsh penalty. 30 minutes is often half of a play session, if not more than that, and getting kicked by a couple of idiots just because one of them thought you were afk or died and blames it on you not being there to save their behind is way too harsh.

Furthermore, if you’re using expedition consumables, getting the dubloons refunded would be nice. Right now you’re just getting doubly shafted.

edit: lol, the word @ss is censored? oh me oh my…

Imo deserter shouldn’t be imposed on anyone getting KICKED from a dungeon, Island Expedition, or the likes. Atleast not the first time it happens. I didn’t desert anything, I was thrown out. In my experience usually to no fault of my own… Heck I’ve been kicked for being stuck in combat when my queue popped and they insta-kicked me cuz I wasn’t in the instance yet. GG 30 min debuff (after spending 45 min in queue to begin with, yay DPS) cuz I couldn’t teleport into dungeon fast enough according to some try-hard. It’s just disheartening.

Since I know some people purposely go out of their way to get kicked rather than leave (to avoid deserter even though it doesn’t even work?) if you get kicked from multiple groups in a fixed timeframe then sure, smack them with a deserter debuff, or even have a timer increase (first time 5 min, 2nd 10, 3rd 20 etc), but don’t punish people that are kicked for no reason. Especially since some people can seemingly insta-kick others with no need for votes or the likes.
