Least played classes

Census usually showed warlocks or hunters (E: and druids of course) the least played but all I really see is hunters now and even mages. My guild has mostly hunters and warlocks aswell.
I also did /who in Stormwind and a few other areas and barely saw any warriors. What gives?

Small sample size and confirmation bias obviously but I wanna ask what are other peoples experiences?

There’s a complete buttload of mages everywhere as they’re the most meta class due to spellcleave farming n all. Don’t know who’s the rarest, druids probably.

People saw jokerd breezing through levels by aoe farming and layering.
People hopped on the train.
Mages now salty because layering will be nerfed.

Hunter and warlocks are pretty easy levelers too, since their pet can tank while the player still has some utility incase aggro breaks.

My guess is alot of players just wanted an easier first leveling experience.

Shaman and paladin are maybe the most rare overall, since it’s only one faction.
Per faction, I really couldn’t say. 1 day you see 200 warriors, the other day you see 200 rogues instead. It’s going to be a while before everything has settled and accurate data can be seen.

According to WoWpop (https:// wowpop. appspot. com) above level 5, low to high: Shamans, Paladins (but they are faction specific). Druid, Warlock, Rogue, Priest, Hunter, Mage and highest is Warrior.

My guess would be Druid, since they really cant do anything well in Vanilla/Classic.

The least played class on my server (Judgement A) is actually warlock closely followed by druid, rogue and priest. There’s very little difference between them. Mages and warriors are definitely the most popular though.

A class being unpopular doesn’t necessarily mean it will be in high demand. Druids are often an unpopular class, yet they generally only get 2-3 raid spots. Them having 8% server pop is actually adequate to fill their demand.

Warriors however, even with 15% server pop they are going to be very highly sought after for endgame content.

I did /who 60 yesterday and warriors were the most represented class. Talk about hard leveling, LoL.

Dont know where you got that hunter thing, they’re usually one of the better represented classes
anyways, for classic its always like this:
Warriors, mages, rogues, hunters > warlocks, priests > druids, shamans, paladins

Yeah, people saying things like this generally don’t know anything about playing a druid in Vanilla/Classic.

In my experience, the required skill level usually leads to a lack of good raiding druids, which creates good demand for them.

In general, I’m actually surprised at how many druids I see around. But yeah, they’re probably the least played class.

What makes you think I wasnt a Druid in
Vanilla? In fact, this Druid right here was created on day one of Vanilla.
Sure, back then we didnt know we actually wherent that great.
If it wherent for Battlerezz there would be no use in having more than one Druid (for Buffing). Oh, and OOmkin and Feral wasn`t a thing in Vanilla (if you wherent specifically specced for Warsongflagcarrier, which admittedly was kinda fun )

I never said I didn’t think you played a druid in Vanilla. In fact, I find that it’s often players who did play a druid who are among the most uninformed. I’m not necessarily referring to you, I’m sure you were a good player and I’m not trying to be insulting, but druids as a class have to deal with a lot of stigmas about being bad and it isn’t helpful when druids themselves perpetuate these.

Times have changed, and I do believe Classic will see druids play much more active roles.

You are specifically referring to raids, which is only a small part of the Vanilla/Classic experience, others being world pvp, bg pvp, dungeons, leveling, etc. People so easily dismiss this for a focus on endgame content, which might hold true for later expansions, but not classic.

And still, in raiding, 2-3 resto druids were fairly standard. They were not just there for the buffs, they were good healers, who also contributed valuable utility (CC, innervate, BR). In classic that will only change for the better. For example, I really think one feral druid is optimal for a standard raid.

I’ll grant you, they indeed weren’t in Vanilla. But you were referring to Classic as well. And it wouldn’t surprise me if we’d see the occassional boomkin in a raid.

Look, it was just the absolutist tone of your post; ā€œDruids can’t do anything good.ā€ Which just isn’t true.

  • Feral druids are handsdown among the best levelers.

  • Feral druids might even be better dungeon tanks than warriors. To give an example, at level 40, druids get instant plate-like armor, while warriors often need 5 levels or more to completely replace their set.

  • A balance/resto hybrid is a god in pvp if played well.

  • Even boomkins are decent dungeon dps’ers. They don’t excel at them, like a mage, but they don’t suck at it either.

The main problem with druids is their high skill cap. You need to know how to play your class. A good feral druid who has perfected powershifting dps (i.e. with crowd pummeler) can really justify a raid spot as an offtank/boss dps to replace that Prot offtank warrior who does subpar dps on a boss and has no utility. 5% crit, a BR, innervate, are just too good to let go. But if you don’t know how to do that, they’re not worth it. Equally, in dungeons, for example if you’re running through BRD, a tough instance were wiping is likely throughout the run, there’s not a better utility class to bring (except maybe a Ret paladin) than a cat dps.

Especially outside raids, druids need to play their class as a whole, instead of just their spec.

@OP: sorry to go a bit off topic

I can just refer to my own experience. I was a Druid through most of Vanilla, and I mostly hated it, especially when I saw what my fellow Healers could pull off in comparison. Priests did double the Healing, and they could Do Mind Vision to track Patrols, and Fear Ward the Tank. Paladins could do the Sacrifice-Thingie and had awesome Plate and Shieldarmor.
I guess I still have Vanilla-PTSD

Druids are definitely the weakest class, not much question of it. Low damage, low healing. There is definitely legitimacy as to why they were/are unpopular.

Yep, people play mages and warlocks only because they are faster to level. Not because they are baller pvp classes. I can totally sign that.

Where did I write this applies to everyone?

Vanilla nax raiding oomie reporting in - we were not THIS rare. We existed and we wore mainly cloth. Might have a picture too somewhere with my druid in nax cloth to prove a point.

Ahh yes, when Battlegrounds open, expecially Warsong Gulch, there will be some spike in the Druid playerbase

There is a site some of us are uploading our Census data too, it’s by no means a full picture yet

Tbh its kinda weird that not many play locks, especially on pvp servers.
Lock is a monster in PvP, one if not the best PvP DD beside warrior with T3. It levels fast and surpasses most classes damage wise in later phases.
