I think his case would be “exaggerating out of frustration because he got owned and didn’t like it”…
Not saying I would do much better tho, but I’d at least admit I was outplayed, because I’ve just recently returned and still haven’t got the full grasp of how each class works in classic (hey, it’s been quite a few years since I last played vanilla too…)
People just like to exaggerate the problem to find some sort of justification to their frustrated rant or when they don’t know what they did wrong and just wanna blame the mechanics or something.

Personally i think hunter is the hardest pvp class to master.
If a hunter plays perfect no other class can win against a hunter “theoretically”. But to maintain that magical 5 (36-41) yards interval all the time is very hard to achieve. It really needs years and years of practice.
Yes viper sting is the way to go. But i bet, in your case you win not just because of it. You win because his devouring plague probably was on cooldown

An ele sham can actually hard counter their max range entierly.
But it does require pre equipping 5pc zg set so its not really that useful or something you would ever encounter. (thrash neck, trinket is pure memes 1k+ shield procs, but the other 3 pices are okeyish; with ok stats just abit low on ac at this point).
Toyed araund with it for the lols a few times, but ofc its just there eating up bank slots really.
As a hunter, why do you even allow SP to touch you? Git gut maybe.
What do you know at level 18 little troll boi.
What kind of absurd logic is this? You literally won over it on your hunter…

Shadow priest is very strong In a 1v1 situation they lose against
shamans hard counter - they can purge off their sheild and ranged kick their shadow school and can prevent mana burn or mind blast with grounding as well as heal themself when needed and can one shot them with the one shot combo ele or lucky WF procs
Undead Rogues- are a counter can instantly get out the fear and can keep them locked down if you reflect the dot or kick shadow school and you can reset fight if you gouge and vanish just as dots are falling off shadow priests suffer from mana so if you can reset fight and prevent them drinking you will outlast them. It is harder for Allience rogues since you cannot break the fear as easy.
Warriors - this is dependant on the amount of rage you have when going into the battle or the use of a rage potion if you charge in with low rage the shield stops you generating as much and priest will win if you have rage to pop the sheild there is not much a priest and do and will get destroyed.
Mages - it’s all gear dependant if you can get a full 8 second counterspell before they silence you you can pop CDs and kill them before they can cast bonus if you get mana burn and lock out both schools otherwise priest win
Warlocks - depends on you pet or spec you really need to be geared and destruction for the burst damage you can purge sheild and counter spell with fel hunter if you can nuke then you can win same with if you manage to get them in a full seduction chain. If you let the priest mana burn you will lose.
Druids - can win if you keep up the pressure and outlast the priest via healing yourself and dotting they will oom fast kiting in and out and bear or cat when they try burn or MC.
Paladins can win or lose depending on situation because they can simply dispel the dots and heal or bubble when focused and out last them but you need somewhere to Los or run away because they will fear and mana burn you to beat you.
Affliction locks, hunters, undergeared players will more likely lose

Hunter in open world pvp is pretty strong because he outranges everyone.
Kite and manadrain the priest (priest can’t remove the poison), easy win.
The priest would need to land a good nade or use swiftnesspotion or at least some trick to get closer to the hunter.
Is this a bit of an example of the rock-paper-scissor mechanics that was part of the game until the whole pvp-everyone-shall-be-able-to-do-everything adjustments began?
(Adjusting a game like wow to consider 1v1 PvP is doomed to make the game worse in other aspects. Wanna 1v1 PvP? Better go do that in e.g a FPS where PvP skills are on top of the list rather than how many weeks you ha e been farming gear and rep etc).
Random open world 1v1 encounters on a PvP server …sometimes you are lucky and sometimes not.
Not just 1 GSPP, several. I have got a whole bag filled with greater Shadow Protection pots, Major Healing Potions and Tubers.
My Hunter is perma stationed where he farms, and I gank him now every day every 30 minutes.
I knew somebody would pop and say that.
No, it does not reflect dots, neither SP dots nor Warlock dots. The only thing that it reflects from the SP repertorium is Mind Blast. Period.
Except it does reflect dots. Both Shadow Word: Pain and in the case of undeads, Devouring Plague.
I’m rank 13 buddy, believe me.
I’ve PvP’d enough to know.
I use a R1 SWP vs rogues sometimes because if they reflect I can put that on myself for basically ‘free’ blind/sap breaks to mess up their ‘stunlock-no-fun’ combo.
You’re simply wrong.
I am gonna try this again after wed’s raid vs guildie and will post and admit if i am wrong.
Will also make tests to see if any of the dot dmg can be resisted.
Ofcourse you can reflect dots. Good shadow priests will reflect a rank 1 Shadow Word: Pain on themselves to prevent blind, scatter, polymorphs etc.

I will wait patiently for you to come back here and tell me that you’re wrong.
Shadow priests are insanely easy to kill.
Spam Viper Sting from MAX range without getting dotted until they are out of mana, then go and melee them to death. Especially in Un’Goro it should be very easy to kite.
You should never be in their pathetic 10 yard range fear. Also if you do decide to stay in range of his spells, you can reflect the inevitable mind blast.

Yes we know buddy, SP are busted in classic. Glad you had a hands-on experience 1v1 instead of your regular 10 horde vs 2 alliance players as usual. Intimacy really changes your perspective, doesn’t it ?
Me and guildie tested two things:
- Reflects from trinket
- Whether DOT damage can be resisted.
First run I had 65 Shadow Resistance (T2+Trinket) and 2nd run I had 125 Shadow Resistance buffed from the SP.
-
I was wrong, SP DOTS can indeed be reflected by the Reflector trinket. Trinket reflects ONLY ONE DOT, usuall SWP since that’s the 1st one they spam.
-
I did not resist any of the DOT damage during any of the tests while I had 65 Shadow Resistance.
-
I did resist A SINGLE TICK of the DOT damage while I had 125 Shadow Resistance that reduced the damage done by the tick by 50%.
At this point I think it’s almost impossible for the average player to resist any DOT damage with low shadow resistance in around 50’s.
-
Note that Mind Blast can and is routinely resisted with Shadow Resistance as low as 10.
-
I never resisted any of the Mind Flay Damage no matter how much Shadow Resistance I was wearing.
While we were having our little discussion here, I kept ganking the “bad boy” SP daily, and I noticed he has learned how to buff himself and bought some pots.
(The Class is so OP that previously he never used pots nor buffed himself as he didn’t have to).
The following comes from my Damage Meter during one of these ganks (have screenshot):
Hunter, 5215 damage, 401 DPS
Pet, 4886 damage, 156 DPS
I had to do 10,101 damage on the SP to kill it.
Numbers say you’re wrong.
So you were able to do over 10k damage before he was able to kill you? That sounds like hunters are way too strong to me.
Scroll up.
I buff myself with mongoose, world buffs, I use Greater Shadow Protection Potion, Greater Healing Potion and Whipper Root Tuber in order to be able to kill the SP.
While he is unbuffed, he does only slightly less dmg to me, around 8-9k. If this guy buffs himself with world buffs, then he’s a world boss.
I think he has Grand Marshall gear.
This is why he ganked the whole zone wherever he is (famous ganker). He never thought anyone could beat him solo PvP and indeed I have to raid buff myself and spam Greater Shadow Pots to beat him.
Maybe you wouldn’t need those consumables if you didn’t choose to be in melee range of him?
