it’s out of hand. there’s absolutely no feeling of progress in retail leveling right now, instead you feel like you’re losing progress because you get a lot weaker over the time. it’s so hard to figure out a rotation yourself unlike classic or other mmos, you have to reach max level and figure out which spell is better by checking guides.
this whole thing needs a big overhaul, AGAIN.
am i the only one feeling this way?
it’s literally the only reason i’m not tanking atm because it felt amazing leveling a tank and after 65-70 it felt terrible. i respecced otherwise i’d be tanking this season
I got to lvl70 on an alt earlier with loads of 200-300 ilvl gear, so felt really weak. This shouldn’t happen but does as you just level so fast and the gear drops don’t keep up.
I’d get all heirloom gear and max out the level I can get it to but I have one of every class now and not going to do more, so I’m not going to invest in that gear now. Some gear like this should be implemented where new characters get gear to start and it increases with level like heirloom but without the additional perks. Change current gear drops to cosmetics only. The current gearing system is still based on 2006 WoW.
If you still have some currency or tokens lying around, the Dreamsurge gear from DF might help a bit.
But yeah, it feels rather funny to only grow weaker. I don’t see a good way out of it, it’s great in so far that everyone can play with everyone in theory. It’s not working well from a growing stronger while leveling kind of viewpoint tho which makes it all feel sort of counter productive.
I think the problem is, that not only are we leveling too fast to gain gear, TW dungeons aren’t the greatest source of gear. They chose 6 dungeons of every expansion but the loot distribution isn’t always great, some slots are lacking more than others.
The satchels and vendor might alleviate it to some degree but classic TW didn’t have satchels.
Of course people rushing to the end boss for the completion bonus skipping every boss possible doesn’t help the gearing issue at all.
Leveling is a pointless activity to gate the end-game content and reset the gear.
The faster it’s over the better.
I agree.
With the current speed of leveling, as soon as you hit the final bracket or max level through Timewalking, your character is utterly useless. The system doesn’t keep up with even relevant gear.
Case in point, I leveled my druid through timewalking dungeons, and started the introduction quest to TWW as soon as I was done with leveling.
My gear was so bad I couldn’t even kill the mobs during the Dalaran sequence, I got two-shot by them due lack of gear.
This system needs to be better.
Please speak for yourself.
There’s people that actually enjoy leveling up characters, and we shouldn’t be deprived of our fun just because you don’t want to level up a character.
They could literally buff Heirloom’s gear stats since they are so under tuned that a simple dungeon loot is far better than a piece of heirloom forcing people to swap gear around until they ding the next level, seems a little confusing in my opinion considering the gold spending involved.
I don’t even have that many heirloom items or bothered upgrading them.
Another system that needs an overhaul then.
Because I am not investing the insane amount of timewalking badges needed for this, nor do I see the point at the moment since you breeze through these levels too fast.
I remember them being useful before they got nerfed and instead got those tier-set bonuses which in my honest opinion makes little difference, but yeah.
Oh they definitely used to be good when they came out.
They were just slightly stronger than gear at the same level.
But they also used to cost a lot of gold back then, so it was a serious investment.
Especially with all the buffs going on you just level way too fast. Now I get it with the fact that all the focus lays on the endgame within the game, however if you do gear up your character a bit, you blast through anything in your way. All in all, it makes the whole experience feel extremely dull.
I have been playing Classic fresh in the last week and it is so much more enjoyable than what is currently available in retail. You have to think about what you pull and how many mobs, the world feels alive and vibrant due to that. I know that there are also people just spamming dungeons to just get it over with and be able to get into the endgame content, but currently everything before lvl 80 feels to easy or you get into the situation that you aren’t ready for the last 10 lvl’s. Overall it feels dull and broken.
Yes, it’s way too fast. I am not interested in end game and can’t get a connection with any of my alts. I don’t really see the point any more.
I am also enjoying classic fresh but I wouldn’t want retail to be that hard and I also get not levelling through every expansion. I just wish I could finish an expansion in timewalking without Chromie popping up when I have half left to go. There needs to be a happy medium.
Also there is a drastic change in difficulty from levelling to 70 to going into TWW to level 80. Levelling is so easy pre-70 you feel invincible and learn nothing. Then you get the gear scaling ontop. Puts me off trying anything else.
Yeah I get that, Classic might indeed be too hard, currently it just makes me that I am not interested in TWW besides reaching my end game goals. Same idea for the speed of lvling, like you could go from 1-80 within 8-12 hours, to just get on the gearing treadmill. I know that for some people that is their main focus and they have no interest in leveling. But yeah it feels off and wrong at the moment.
agreed, classic fresh is fun, but the lack of QoL adjustments and certain difficulty spikes is the other spectrum we don’t need/want.
After the SL squish, they should never have raised the damn level cap again.
At most keep 60 as max and down-level everyone to 50 on the expansion drop if they are so desperate to keep the level grind.
Not to mention that the level grind itself have largely been replaced with the gear grind we get every patch. So it serves more to waste your time whenever you want to pick up an older alt.
I feel this way too.
I kind of liked Legion class overhaul. Every specialization felt like a different class, it was nice. No useless abilities. Rotation was obvious. I think that there was even some kind of in-game rotation help, that was absolutely essential.
These days specializations have lots of useless abilities just because of “class fantasy”. No, that’s not fantasy, that’s trash. Rotation often is not obvious, you are obliged to go to the external websites full of adds, tracking and monetization and read up guides from unknown persons of varying quality.
I think they should remove all abilities and add like 3-5 abilities for each specialization and start from the scratch. I don’t want to use 30 active abilities and 30 passive abilities. I want to use 3 active abilities and that’s about it. Leveling in Classic feels awesome, I’m literally casting seal every 30 seconds and autoattacking my way.
True.
Certain class combo’s just don’t make any sense or aren’t intuitive to figure out whatsoever. And no, the “press glowly button” really doesn’t help in getting it figured out.
You do not have to go into TW dungeons and you wont level at lightning speed?
My characters are fine at 80, cause i have a warbank full of warbound items to slap on them. Its the 70-80 thats abit awkward cause you lack gear. And i dont bother spending gold to fix that issue.
Leveling is just time consuming for me, the faster its over. The better.
You can level at a normal pace by questing etc. Then you learn your character along the way. And gear keeps somewhat progress, as you get gear from quests. Alltho it will likely do a 180 once you unlock 70+ talents. Since they are so unique and often change the whole playstyle.
You should not force us pain cause you want to do something either. Its a two way street.
You have the option to quest, we have the option to TW dungeon. Could it be better, probably. But i think its fine, the game starts at 80 anyway.
It doesn’t matter if you TW or not.
With all the exp buffs we have right now ingame, it simply doesn’t matter what path you take. I have several characters on 80, thus the 20th anniversary gives me 50% exp.
The event buff adds more as well, it’s ridiculous how fast you level.
- I can spend 2 days doing Timewalking to hit 80
- I can just do the main story in the first zone and hit 80
- I can just do chromie time and be done in 2-4 days depending on the class.
Even if don’t do timewalking, I am maxed out in a matter of days.
Because they want you to play the current content, which has time/resource gates (crests/vault). The leveling in retail is just a means to an end, becasue the game starts at max lvl.
