Leveling in retail is getting worse

Takes me 5-6 hours to level a character using TW. I have all chars 80 now except Monk/Evoker/DH

There is an event going on. And you are complaining about that there is an event?

If leveling slow is so important to you, why not wait till event is over?

And if you want to play now, why not just lock your experience at the level you want for the time you want?

You can play at lvl 40 for 3 days, then level up to 50. Lock xp there and play lvl 50 for a while.

The game has options…

Not leveling is not an option, like…really?
And I am not complaining about the event, I am leveling on classic at the moment because of the event.

The point is that people want more options and have the game cater to all kinds of playstyles.
You don’t want to level? Fine, you get a skip button.
You want’ to level, you level at a steady speed and get the experience as wanted.

It’s really not that hard.
Yet Blizzard followed the one group again that advocated everything to be about reaching endgame asap.

It’s sad that people like you do not understand MMO’s and never will.

You can lock your XP in classic as well…

The game already have the features.

repeating the same pointless argument doesn’t help.
I don’t want to lock my experience, I want to level.

Yet you dont want to level.

I suspect you are very hard to make happy

now you’re just trolling and being obtuse.
It’s clearly explained what we want in the thread.

No, im just pointing out that you are very uncompromising.
Clearly you are not the first to like to enjoy lower levels abit more. Might it be for nostalgia reasons or w/e. So they given you option to lock your xp at a level you want to play abit. Then you can unlock when you feel like progressing. You can play every expansion at their level range if you want.

Yet this is not good enough

Its not trolling pointing this out.

But oh well. We have a saying in my country. “Some people will starve in front of the bread basket”

Nice Ad-hominem btw.

if you don’t teach people how to play their characters while leveling they end up being the way they do these days. most people in retail have no idea about most of their talents and whet they do. they don’t know the game they just memorise how to play it by checking guides.
also people can buy level boosts if they want to so i don’t think the game should be catered only to one group

NO!

WoW’s levelling is dreadful right now for the exact reasons you state. The level scaling is completely whacked up and shouldn’t exist in the first place. It’s total trash.

and somehow people say i’m trolling because of saying this…
i just wanted to see if others felt the same and thanks for your input
i hope they do something with upcoming expansions to change the scaling at least. it’s horribly wrong.
also some people made it about length of the leveling but i don’t think that’s the actual problem. there is just no progress in retail leveling atm

Yeah it feels like levelling down.

Leveling should not be a thing anymore. It does not serve any purpose apart from timegating you from the real content.

that’s not the case for literally any other mmo tho ,you can buy a boost to skip it

People who mention warbank gear and heirloom gear are missing the point. Imagine a brand new player starting fresh, what does that look like for them?

Upgrading heirloom gear for most would cost so many TW badges that it isn’t worth it and the heirloom gear is not that good anyway.

WoW might think that this is just a temporary problem because of all the XP buffs from the anniversary event but even prior to that, there was still an issue of feeling weaker as you gained levels which just feels bad.

I have all the heirloom gear for every single class. It is nothing to write home about. It comes out at 337 ilvl for lvl 69. It is not exactly epic and mind bending. Heirloom gear starts off over powered then very quickly meanders into low level gear. Definitely not worht spending badges on any more.

Levelling is supposed to be about teaching you how to play. But as you say, the time levelling is far too low to appreciate any changes. The button bloat on most classes is overwhelming. You never get to finish a complete expansion to understand WTF is going on. It is a very misguided and unintuitive process. The fact you actually get weaker as you gain levels is just regressive to the progressive feeling you are supposed to get from playing an MMO.

a huge mess, pile of content with no proper guide or msq, no experience that teaches anything to them. people literally don’t learn anything until last 10 levels. they also don’t experience much either, dragonflight as the base experience is a different kind of mess.
so many people that i made buy wow ended up quitting or getting bored before last level or after last level when they face a huge difficulty change with others expecting them to know every mechanic in the game

I will tell you the “secret” about our weak lvls.
The higher level you go the more number of certain stat you will need.
That’s why at lvl 70 you have more mastery than at lvl80.
Yes sound like a problem but :person_shrugging:

I don’t understand what’s so new about “leveling” now compared to in Shadowlands or DF. Yes, it is getting worse but only marginally. The real fundamental disaster was implementing the revamped scaling system à la Chromie Time. In no game should it ever make sense for a low level character in starter gear to one shot bosses that a high level in epic gear struggles to even stay alive, let alone damage. But, here we are.
