Leveling in retail is getting worse

I enjoy levelling the first time. But I’ve done every expansion when it was current. So doing it over and over and over is not fun for me. For example when TWW came out I thoroughly enjoyed my first walk through on my main, and tbh I found enough ways to vary the alts until I got to the fourth and then it was just finding the quickest route possible.

I do not enjoy Classic, partly because it’s all content I’ve done before and it’s insanely slow and tedious to progress through. Questing isn’t efficient and mob grinding is dull especially considering the slow tedious gameplay of using some abilities then relying on auto attacks/wanding. The novelty of quest rewards drops off after about level 20 for me.

People are all different, whilst I like and enjoy the fluid game play of Retail others love the old skool feel they get from Classic, and fortunately it’s all available, so you can play your preference or you can do both.

Just like some people prefer to have a multitude of alts and others really only stick to one main. There is no right or wrong way.

Whilst things like Chromie levelling have been great to let people see more of the stories in Retail without efficiently hopping constantly from zone to zone, expansion to expansion, it does come with scaling. The scaling does not feel good, including the levelling experience in the latest expansion. Yes I can play with anyone regardless of what level they are but the closer I am to 70 the stronger I feel and the closer I get to 80 the more I need to start the gear grind.

You also get this effect where low levels are overpowered in levelling dungeons up to 70. I’ve frequently seen a low level (say 11ish) more or less solo TW dungeons. It’s not really fun engagement but as I’m there to do the quest for five completions I wasn’t complaining either.

Come on OP this week in particular you can gear up most slots with TWW blues (classic + WotlK) then select some expeditions for a few more.

And your freshly dinged 70 is fully operational.

When you hit 71 add a few cheap 518 too.

That is why different genres exist and this game is supposed to be an RPG. Which it isn’t anymore.

In your opinion. And that’s fine.

100% agreed.

Been playing a long time and i think leveling has got better and structured, you do not run out of quests now and have to grind mobs before being able to level to pick up next quest.

I never liked classic leveling it was not hard just mind blowing slow and disjointed quests all over the place.

Only sad part about retail leveling was that the campaign main story ran out at 77.

Leveling would be a bit more of an adventure if the mobs we fight actually did something once in a while instead of just auto attacking us. And actually where a little fun to fight.

I never really had to grind mobs to reach a next quest level.
Do you have an example where this happened?

While I personally like the classic leveling experience, I wouldn’t be aversed to having it sped up a little bit.
Or at the very least have the quest QoL to be have it more streamlined.

Elites used to be a bit more challenging…
But on the other hand, how do you want mobs to be more challenging without having the skills to counter it

Normal questing mobs could have some mythic+ mechanics sprinkled ontop every now and then. Some swirlies to dodge. Some aoe to get out of. Have a bit more fight in them than now.

NO SWIRLIES :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

Ofc this happened before the first major patch back in classic were they had to make more quests due to the fact between 38-40 there was no quests to help you proceed.

I had to go Desolace and grind mobs there for a while.

Ah okay, I vaguely remember that.

they already sell boosts for people to skip & allow in-game boosting too. i don’t think the leveling experience should be designed around people who only wants to do m+. most of those players already have their characters ready & level 10 levels every expansion anyway.

Where do you specify you lvled to 68? For all I know, you “finished lvling” then did the quests. So yeah. I did read. And you going “I lvled through TW” had me thinking… Well… That you lvled through TW.

Key words:

Again…

Even IF you lvled from 1-68 through TW, it is NOT the intended way of lvling. So of course the mechanics wont be able to keep up with people getting 5-6x exp pr. run of a normal quest… So yeah you will have extremely obsolete gear at 68 because you lvl faster than the drop rates… But did you notice, that quests on the other hand aren’t all giving you the same type of gear, but usually spread? So one gives cloak, the next shoulders etc. etc.? Coincidence?

yes I have. Even sold a ton of green items myself.
So what are the prices you see right now for 568ilvl gear on the AH? Please do enlighten me.

Oh please… Don’t tell me a new player lvling from 1-80 is not going to have more than 6k gold xD Thats what… A weeks worth of only the raw gold world quests?

You can herb and mine on the way to (Another part of the game you know) to earn more, as it also gives a good chunk of exp

But no, you would rather power lvl through TW and then be surprised the gear doesn’t follow…

The problem is the speed that people have to learn to adopt. There are no issues till you get to about 65ish. At which point, healers cannot understand why they cannot keep a tank up anymore. If Bli££ really wants to teach mechanics and abilities, then pushing it all into the last 15 levels is not ideal.

The biggest issue for me is that leveling is so quick, you dont get the feeling of the class you play.
And once you are level 70, you really need to use your skillset, wich you havent learned how to use.
Worst case: you wasted time leveling to 70 to discover the class isnt for you…

No never was an RPG. Played this game since start. Ive never meet someone who has RPG.

There was RPG servers. But RP servers were dead from start.

RP is cringe.

Yet AD is one of the biggest EU realms with a very active RP community so your whole point is moot.

Yea you have to go all the way down to server 19 of the biggest populated server to find one RP server…

And its the only one there being RP of the 30 biggest servers…

As i said. A minority from the start, and still is. The game has never been about that minority. No one has cared for them. They are not strong enough in numbers to bring in revenue vs “normal” players.

My point is that this game has NEVER been about them. Its been about us masses playing in a normal way.
