Spy and ClassicAuraDurations are two gamebreaking addons that are clearly against the Classic design and RPG spirit. Detect magic for example is rendered useless outside of Pvp where it can be used to prevent dispel by the use of ClassicAuraDurations, which even then are more useful as you get the durations ontop of seeing the buffs the target has.
Spy renders lots of abilities near useless, track humanoid is useless in open world, players can’t hide behind objects and ambush since people know if people are near. (You would have to have the entire raid click off stuff like demon armor, blessing of wisdom, remove gear pieces with certain effects and so on to hide from combat log).
My suggestion is that UNIT_AURA (Triggered whenever someone gains an aura (debuff or buff), this means you can use an addon to track the exact duration and cooldown of target without even looking at them or having detect magic up.) this event should be hidden for the targets friendly auras unless it’s a friendly target or the unit has detect magic up.
Other events should only be visible if the units in question are in combat with a raid/party member.
These addons are clearly against “the vanilla spirit” or whatever was justified to nerf the LFG addon, a feature which has more presence in vanilla in the form of a LookingForGroup channel and innkeepers.
Don’t @ me or reply if you are from a RP realm (Any realm name that consists of two or more words is a de facto RP realm)
just read the bottom of my post and delete your comments since you are a roleplayer. normal people play orc or troll. to entertain your point though; the other threads are just calling for a ban or something without any rational solution which i have provided here.
yea should allow gladiatorlossa and cd tracking at blizzcon.
all of these features are more than a convenience. buffs were not visible in classic and blizzard clearly removed it from the 1.13 client, but the behaviour can be replicated with addons, when in classic, there is a spell that is supposed to provide this feature.
I do think preventing addons reading combat log events pertaining to enemy faction players that you are not currently PvP engaged with would be a decent start.
Agreed, AddOns should be limited to UI customization and anything unrealted to combat (both PVE and PVP) such as Auction house, bags, character equipment etc.
Why did they ban addons that allowed you to create conditional macros such as eg if player is using holy spell then cast kick else do nothing. And not ban spy?
