Line of Sight

Does anyone else here think that using LoS to bring ranged mobs and casters to you seems a little off? I’m having them stubbornly stay put and shoot/cast at me through hills and buildings.

It may just be that PServers have scripted this behavior differently and it was never like that to begin with… but idk, what do you think?

Yes… this so much yes!
Mobs are not supposed to be able to shoot through those massive trees right?
I distinctly remember using the trees in Duskwood & Ashenvale to get casters closer with my Warrior?

But here I am getting nuked like a scrub through everything.

Right, so it’s not just me… I’ll have to submit a big report.

LoS has never been coded particularly well. Even today on retail, OG’s guards shoot throw roofs and walls.

So perhaps the Pservers just scripted it better…

Some structures are a bit off. Trees and certain building prefabs especially, but it has always been that way.

You usually don’t see it in a dungeon though, luckily.

Trees and objects like rocks have never blocked line of sight. It would be incredibly hard to play caster if this was the case, and people could los you at every object in the game. Buildings, ruins, etc. That sort of stuff provides los.

I think there are inconsistencies.
I was able to shoot mobs through the tree which was very surprising, I don’t remember that to be possible.
In the other hand we’ve been pulling mobs from behind walls just fine.

I’m much preferring my experience with classic, but I must say Kronos has LoS down to a T

This is working as intended. You are meant to be able to shoot and cast through small trees and stuff.

I think this has always been the case. In Vanilla AV I used to be able to hide behind certain trees, yet still shoot arrows at the enemy… which was a nasty thing to do, but whatever works.

But the difference here is that in Classic, it is working as intended, while on Kronos they scripted it to work differently.

I’m talking big hills and huge redwood-style trees

I had a Mage there. It was absolutely terrible when everything out in the world losed your spells. Completely changed the game balance between caster and melee.

Quite right.

I remember shooting enemy players from behind hills and through trees on my Hunter and Mage.

The hill up by the GY right before the alliance base is one of those hills where you could stand behind the hill and take out re-spawns all day long.

I hadn’t considered that it might be intentional.

My guess is it most likely was done to save on server load from not having to compute as much line of sight all the time, but it did become part of what defined Vanilla class balance, intentionally or not.

From what I remember, casting has always been possible through trees and hills. Just not buildings.

Line of site isn’t working - just run or die lol.
2 harpies killed me when trying to do Los.

If you mean literallly going through an entire hill then that would be a bug. But if you mean you’re running over a crest and managing to shoot through then yeah its always been like that. LoS is a bit vague over sloped environment.**
