Definitely agree. One of the main draws for me is the hunter class fantasy.
And it’s quite unique when you look at other mmorpgs. Most other rpgs have pet classes, but those usually involve a pre-determined ‘summoned’ kind of pet. Not one you go out and tame in the wild.
I’d say the world at large is a big PRO of WoW.
I love Azeroth. Not a fan of Outland or Shadowlands.
As for other pros I have:
The fluidity of gameplay and combat. Not many other mmorpgs feel as good to play as WoW does.
Many years and expansions worth of content in the game.
Cons:
Too much focus on ‘the big 3’ imo.
Still too much catering to high end players - a small minority.
PvP
A large part of the playerbase being driven only by meta/performance.
When the devs go for something, they always seem to have blinders on, making them disregard issues that are clear for most people outside the dev circle.
The world, even to this day, I don’t think many MMO’s capture the same feeling as WoW does when you’re running through a zone. Though GW2 probably tops it for me.
The races, what can I say? I think all the races are awesome and have some great lore to back them.
Transmog, I mean it’s fantastic.
Mounts - no other MMO even comes close.
Combat is fluid, though I prefer GW2’s it is definitely a huge plus still.
Ambience/BGM - LOVE IT
battlegrounds, they’re awesome.
titles I love em.
seasonal events! Halloween is still my
favourite!
Leveling - Yep! It’s quick! I can go wherever I want now!
Probably a load more I can’t think of right now
Cons;
Classes They feel kinda gutted to me and at a very weak point/low point in terms of general balance and kit viability.
Approach - Think the devs are to eager to please a percentage of the playerbase who will sit and play for twelve hours a day rather than the working playerbase who can get 1-4 hours a day. Also catering to their skill.
Timegating - It’s just silly, I wouldn’t mind if it was shorter periods.
Shadowlands - Haha, nah I’m just not a big fan of most of the zones and I actually find pretty much every dungeon boring.
M+ - This is technically a pro for me as I love the system - HOWEVER I hate that if your friends or guild are offline, you can be completely shafted if you play Ret or any underperforming spec and would like to push high keys.
Mythic raid - I genuinely don’t really see the point. I get a small percentage does it, but I feel like LFR gets completely shafted and could probably do with slightly higher scaling difficulty with better rewards.
World quests/Solo play - again somewhat a pro, but feel like Blizz could do a better option to provide more endgame gearing means to players who enjoy this aspect. I’m not asking for M+15 or Mythic raid tier gear, just somewhere in between.
Profs - been dead for awhile now
Legos - Tied to profs, such a silly idea to let players who can reap the rewards stay richer.
Alts - Whilst it’s definitely improved, feel like having alts shouldn’t feel like such a burden.
Heirlooms - again tied to alts, why so many tiers? Just make us buy one or two and be done with it. Would also love to see some sort of rep bonus applied towards old expansion reps for those of us who enjoy that content.
Gameplay. Its just super smooth and convenient for me. Take a year long break and come back, np. Feels like I just played yesterday
If you play one char and always keep it up to date - its not very time consuming to be/stay competitive
The amount of content. Never sit there thinking ‘well, nothing to do’
Addons! Really something like a damage meter is what I always miss in other games. Having a direct way to evaluate new builds/gear/whatever is really cool.
Simcraft! More or less same as last point. Having a way to see the potential of builds/gears/whatever is interesting.
cons:
Catch up time after long breaks. If you miss a patch or two - you better wait for the next expansion tbh
The amount of ‘wasted’ time. If its torghast, keystones or raids where you only need later bosses. You put in time and effort and often enough someone in the group (can also be you ofc) is too bad, group falls apart and you get nothing in return for your time and effort. Frustrating by design.
The ‘you think you do but you dont’ mentality of devs. Community often serves problems in ptr on a silver plate but devs are too stubborn to listen properly
Class/spec balance. It was always bad. Really
Tech. Game engine is very old and you will see and feel that.
