List of restricted names that should not be restricted at all

Gandalf is copywritted? A name taken (appropriated) by JRR Tolkien from the Prose Edda of ancient Norse mythology.

I think not son.

Actually it is a registered trademark, maybe try a little research before posting things like this again.

You can’t trademark a name from a religious text. It’s ridiculous.

Big true. Absolutely big true.

The CHARACTER and protagonist of LOTR Gandalf the Grey/white IS a copywritted and protected piece of intellectual property.

The NAME is not. Which is the issue at hand. He’s not asking to steal the entire story and background of the characters.

The use of names is controlled by bliz for reasons. (I’ll leave it at that). It doesn’t stop 1000x Illidari style names or the bastardisation of many other characters of lore.

It’s not spelt the same.

And you trademark/copyright something by assigning a NAME to it (in this case ‘Gandalf’)

Incorrect. But thanks.

Happy Birthday song is registered. Every time you sing it you should pay royalty to the owner, but nobody does…

what exactly is it you suspect and have you told anyone about this?

I generally would not assume they would free up those names ever because there is simply no reason to do so
Also a customer support employee does not have any power or leverage in the company to be able to say wether or not these restrictions will be lifted in the future, do not expect these names to ever be freed up.

Armory is a blizzard owned platform all our characters are placed on
I can imagine someone who chooses to be creative with their interpretation of copyright violation can wreak a lot of damage if I’m allowed to rename myself to Legolas

It isn’t, there’s a particular arrangement of the song that’s registered but the song’s lyrics are copyright free

I agree that their naming policy is garbage, but on the other hand, who would want to argue with the typical overly sensitive british white knights defending an imaginary victim that might feel uncomfortable for 2 seconds and felt the need to share it with public. Its the typical alibistic move of bigger companies, who dont want to deal with what is fair and what is not.
LoL I couldnt even quote your post due to the A words. How did you get your post through, lol?

Well. It’s clear isn’t it. Mr Bumble currently runs Blizzard. Bees can’t fly in a blizzard.
Lord Bumble is the overlord of us all and is actually a giant hedgehog dressed as a bee.

HOW IS THIS NOT OBVIOUS!?

I for one welcome our new Bee hog overlords.

It’s more and more harder to think out a nick for a char without being unavailable these days !

No that’s Spiny Norman you’re talking about there.

Privilege!

i must admit, i could not have figured this out myself. it is most impressive.

Alot of the names you’re saying people have already taken, that is why they’re ‘restricted’. There are players called Frodo, for example. You can be running around with the same name as multiple players. I’ve not bothered searching all of the name you mentioned, but if you search on armory they’re probably just taken.

Download TPR3 And name yourself Sylvanas.

Ragnaros. Not allowed to use that.
