Non-mage portals (more player interactions with mages)
NPC repair (more interactions with blacksmith players)
The auction house
Dungeon and raid instant queues
One great thing in BFA is that they made rogue picklock relevant again, even if it was just for one dungeon.
We need more of these unique flavourful interactions, like a massive pit that warlock players could allow everyone to cross with Demonic gate to skip some packs of monsters for example.
I know you like flying, I do too. And you mention convenience, but don’t you see?
All of this convenience takes away from the MMORPG aspect of the game by isolating us and making player interactions superfluous, almost a waste of time.
Even without mounts player interactions wouldn’t improve, except maybe in war mode. The world is so easy that no one needs other people to do anything. Removing the convenience of flying/mounting won’t change that.
The publisher selling level boosts to skip a large portion of the game that should be designed in way that makes you want to play it rather than skip it.
The thing about your suggestions is that they do catch the drift of the MMORPG, and many of them were in the game beforehand, but they can go so far as to make the game unplayable.
The auction house doesn’t do too much harm provided the cut is high enough that it can pay off selling directly. It used to be like 10% and people were using the trade chat all the time. That’s really great.
NPC repair should not be removed, as being in a situation where you must be social to even be capable of playing the game at all is not good. The ability to play the game alone is one of the key innovations that WoW brought to the table.
Being unable to participate in some activities is different, but being unable to play it at all - no. That’s far too extreme.
But everything else is pretty much spot on. As far as dungeons go, they are actually making dungeon skips based on character power, but in this case it’s based on Covenant. Given the lower amount of Covenants, this seems like a reasonable choice to me.
I’d remove the auction house and replace it with merchant mode, where your character logs out but doesn’t disappear from the world, instead appearing as if it were a merchant NPC that you can click on to see whatever they have for sales.
Merchant mode could only last for 24 hours, and there would be limits as to how many people can activate it at once in the same area to prevent lag.
But this could be fun. Your server would eventually get to recognize certain players and their preferred selling location, and transmog could play a role in giving players an incentive to check what you have to sell.
I dislike this. Again, you’re making the game unplayable in the service of sense of world.
That, to me, is no good. The game should always be playable whenever you want to. There should be no incentive to log off.
WoW does have a problem in this area in that it can give you a repair bill you can’t pay, and you can’t get money because you can’t adventure because your gear is broken because you can’t pay.
But this situation is extremely rare. In fact never really heard of it happening, but it’s theoretically possible.
No making the game unplayable in the service of sense of world! In fact no making the game unplayable at all.
