I’ve spent almost whole day, to obtain all map fragments. Died 3 times near the flag, made a travel to thunderbluff to buy strong consumables from auction house…
It was hard, but i made it. I’ve obtained the key. But what is next? Quest says, the treasure should be under the flag, but there’s nothing. Is it a bug or feature?

It despawns after a certain time. So if you looted the key, and failed to open the chest in time eg run from gy, you are f…ked. You can’t click the flag to start the event, and you have no map to retake the quest.
PS. Deleting the key doesn’t help as it autodeletes the quest from log (another bfa bs i guess)

You only get one shot at the quest. After activating the flag, a chest will spawn beneath it that requires a key from one of the mobs that spawn along side it.
If you take too long the chest will despawn, leaving you with no way to complete the quest.
Here’s a tip though to make the quest very easy. Once you activate the flag, range attack one of the mobs while running away. Eventually the other mobs you aren’t attacking will return to their spawns, but the mob you kited will stay. Loot the key from it then return to the flag without drawing aggro and open the chest. Boom.
However, since the chest has already despawned you need to abandon the quest and possibly farm the map fragments again. Or just skip the quest.
I just finished this quest yesterday, so i had trouble finding the flag because questie (i don’t know if you are using this for quests) is showing the flag is in the wrong place. In fact even wowhead had wrong coordinates.
I found the sail a bit to the west from where the wowhead and questie shows (around 100 m) so if you go there you will find it. It is a nice quest to do.
About flag, I’d discovered it without any problems. Information about its location contains in quest, but i couldn’t even know, that thre’re any problems with chest despawning.
There’s no any challenge in classic retail players said, but sometimes it can be really hard.
Can´t you wait for someone else to do the quest i.e. spawn the chest for you? If you have the key, it could work…
I guess it despawns when you loot it. Not 100% sure though, didn’t pay any notice to that. In that case you ninja it from someone.
No worries, I’ve already deleted this key. It was fun, but enough for now.
It does not despawn when used. You basically don´t loot the chest. It´s basically a quest NPC spawned for some time that is used to complete the quest. I strongly believe you don´t prevent other people from completing the quest when you use their chest to complete your quest.
