No, we both know you tippy toe right now.
Stop it.
You and I paid for the game.
You and I paid a game that includes Old Gods in it which implies phobias, lots of phobias.
You bought a product when you have a problem with its fundamentals-
thats entirely on you.
You’re an adult.
Make up your mind.
You bought the product. You got no right of entitlement for it to change on fundamental level.
It’s 2024, We got arachnophobia mode ingame mate,
I’m sure you don’t like it but here we are, Those damn Blizzard devs pandering to the weak and mentally ill!!!11
Fair enough.
But i clarified my stance on this issue. Including stating that its an auto immune disease.
But…
I have been with way too many people talking about how sensitive they are to gluten while they stuff their mouth with pasta and pizza.
Same with phobias. People complaining about being afraid of bugs while they vacation every year in the countryside… Doing hikes with a cloud of bugs and mosquitoes flying around them…
And i encountered far more people like that then with real diseases.
So when it comes to a videogame, of course i ask for extra proof before caring, or worse, being ok with changing the game for the majority of us that dont have that disease.
Found this thread by punyelf from months ago
it’s hilarious the similarities in some of the posts complaining there and the posts complaining here…
These damn blizzard devs ruining the game!!!
Sorry to break it to you but crabs are arachnids aka spiders.
And i dont have a problems with it- i got a problem when it becomes a tendency.
And as we clearly see people are alreading coming up with all sorts of new phobia claims.
Even if they’re truthful.
Something you are clearly not.
You’re not mentally ill- stop claiming for mental illness.
Nobody is gonna diagnose you based on a single mild phobia.
For example you can have a single underlying mild schyzophrenic symptome and you will still not be diagnosed as a schyzophrenic.
Or me stating psychological facts that contradict your narrative again will get me accused of racism again?
I don’t see how such optional features affect anyone but the person who is optionally using it and I think accessibility features should always be worked upon and included in games
What an awful thread to read.
That’s pretty much my stance. Afaik Blizzard does care about accessibility, the only way they know about these kind of things is if players mention them. In theory the advantage of posting about it on the forum is that people who struggle with the same thing can say so.
Its a problem out of fairness.
First, any feature they implement is not free. It costs dev time. Time that could be invested on other things 99.9% of people that do not have aracnophobia specifically can enjoy.
So from this point of view, its more a PR move than actually caring for people with the disease.
And second, fairness. There are many phobias out there. Why spiders? Why not bugs. Or holes (op’s case)…
And if you were to do the fair thing and include every phobia… What kind of game would we have for the rest of the 90% of people that dont have a phobia?
The best, most fair thing to do (for both the 90% with out the phobia, and for the 10% with a phobia) is to do nothing at all.
I mean yeah your posting
aligns perfectly with those who complain about “woke culture” and “pandering to the mentally ill” when Blizzard added black and brown characters to Stormwind or when NPCs have LGBTQ+ dialogue, Those people who always say that “WoW is based on European fantasy” & H. P. Lovecraft.
Saying that it’s made-up nonsense and I should grow up
Indeed, made me run out of popcorn… Its terrible because the stores are closed😭
Was the “mods please lock this” just another cry for attention? You’ve been in here more since then than ever before.
My third world internet is struggling to play the game today with high ping and high packet loss, So I’m wasting my time posting here until the topic is locked.
Generally they go along with the most common, I believe there is an arachnophobia feature in a lot of other games. I honestly don’t know how they’d implement a trypophobia one but if enough people complain about it, maybe they would.
I’m sorry I never buy the “it’s wasting dev time” thing, they all work on their own things as Metzen said and he encourages what they’re passionate about. It’s never a waste of time to do what you love and to help other people.
The whole thread is a mountain out of a molehill, it feels like OP was freaked out by this thing and wanted to see if other people were too. I had plenty of people in the arachnophobia thread sharing horror stories of things in WoW they hate… that spider cave. As with anything, it makes you feel not alone and better there are others, even having ideas of how to avoid situations e.g. I just look at the floor first person in that spider cave.
The mode doesn’t actually help me because what I hate is how they hang off the ceiling and I actually find the crabs no better, bloody dangling legs shudder
My point is, even if this leads to nothing the OP and others have every right to say something bothers them. It’s up to Blizzard if they want to do anything about it, not other people.
Thats probably going to take until somewhere tomorrow though im afraid.
I remember from a few other games they simply changed the graphics a bit. It’s something quite specific about the pattern that triggers it iirc, I got the impression it’s not too difficult to design around it once you’re aware of how it works. But I’m no game dev so… I dunno!
Well see if other games can do it they can just copy them (to put it simply) and that’s hardly much effort now is it? People twist their knickers about the silliest things!
No, it doesnt, and you trying to bring this up just shows how low you’re willing to hit.
I honestly am shocked that common objective morality completely eludes you.
Nobody considers mild phobias full blown mental illnesses, they’re part of the anxiety disorders and you can have according to psychology up to 3 underlying symptomes or a heavily life-disruptive single one (which is really rare) for an actual diagnosis and claim for a mental illness.
You really should.
Tryng to pander to mental illness over a mild phobia is beyond pathetic and theres no excuse for that, no matter how much you dislike another persons argument.
Its if i demand for a handpicapped status because I lost my pinky in an accident when I was wood-carving when I was a teenager.
You make a complete mockery of people who are actually Ill to put it lightly.
I get it, You think the game should stick to it’s “H.P. Lovecraft” roots and not change, Sadly it’s 2024 and Blizzard abandoned #NoChanges along time ago.
The Old Gods are still the core of the game so I have no idea what you’re on about.
You bought a game that in its core concept is obviously phobia-triggering.
its not Blizzards fault, its your own.
Your entitlement is not grounded in logic, nor morality
but pure childish tantrum
