I make 2250g a week with texts, but I’m on Bloodfang which actually has a decent economy.
The problem is your server. If there’s no raiding scene, there’s no demand for things. As such, you’re going to struggle to make gold.
And yes, skinning/LW are god awful for money in Classic. Absolutely dreadful.
LW can be ok, there are many valuable items you can craft: corehound belt, living shoulders, devilsaur set, hide of the wild etc…(depending on your spec). Later on you can probably make money crafting nature resistance and frost resistance armor. Plus the cured hides every 3 days ofc.
Failing that I suggest you try farming elemental waters, essence of water, essence of air - those usually always sell nicely.
The last stop when everything else fail is grinding Maraudon: use sceptre, kill goblin, princess and rotgrip and vendor their loot. You can even bring a low lvl rogue in with you and sell him the blackstone ring for added gold if you fancy that.
Oh and I almost forgot, as hunter you can solo Dire Maul Tribute, is harder to do than Maraudon ofc but if you get the hang of it is 150+g/hour guaranteed just off king+chest drops (but you need to be an engineer to blast the door).
Think I’ve cracked it with Free Action Potions. For some reason people absolutely love these, and they sell like wildfire. Guess the PvP scene is stronger than the raid scene.
Just have to get lots of Stranglekelp farmed…

how??? on skullflame, one of the most underpopulated servers a firewater goes for 9g EACH.

You must be doing something wrong with AH. fishing nets at least 60-80g per hour and firewater is only questionable because it’s contested by horder/allys or just other players.

Believe me I’m an old hand at playing the auction house. I know all the tricks, and did it extensively back in the good old days. I carefully check the current server value of each item before attempting to sell it. I’m not doing anything wrong at all.
Firewater was selling for an average of 10g 50s for a stack, I undercut by a few silver as always.
Stonescale Eel is currently selling for around 8-9 gold-per stack. Try and sell it for anymore than that and it simply ends up back in the mail unsold. I’ve tried numerous times with the same result.
Yesterday there were no stacks of Stonescale at all, just individual eels selling for around 1g each. I bought up the lot and tried re-selling a stack of 10 for 15g. A few hours later the AH was absolutely flooded with Stonescales selling for 60 silver each, and, as usual mine came back unsold. To get my money back I’d have to sell them for a similar price, to just break even.
As I said, I love most things about my server, but the economy is pathetic.
I often farm the elite mobs in Tyrs Hand (EPL) because i like farming there. They drop decent loot. There are also Thorium/rich Thorium nodes and herbes (incl. blacklotus spawn) there. Once the bags are full you can be at the light hope chapel within a minute and send everything to your bank-alt or vendor the stuff.
