Losing a torghast run is legitimately the worst gaming experience I've had in years

Like the title reads. Now before you say “git gud”, I am well aware that I am a recently new, fairly bad player. However I’d assume people like me are ones blizzard would want to stick around. So I’ve been grinding Torghast to get my legendary, after grinding Mists to get the memory for my legendary, and i just into floor 3, because that’s the next one up.

And I clear boring trash pack after boring trash pack for a solid 40 minutes. I get to the boss… And my DPS is just slightly too low to be able to handle him, i die too many times and I get kicked out of Torghast.

I curse a bit, as one does, but i go “ah well, I’m sure i got something for it”. Then I check the quest, and realize i have gained precisely 0 Ash shards of whatever it’s called. I just spent 40 minutes of my night during a stressful week being bored, frustrated and angry for absolutely no gain.

I’m sure I will start the game again, My brother plays and it’s just about the only game we have in common, but right now I can’t imagine starting WoW. I doubt I’ll start it tomorrow, maybe not at all this week, and then I’ll be undergeared and behind and even less likely to play…

Honestly, why would you design a system like this, roguelikes are fun because you gain something each run, and because the play itself is rewarding, wow is not built on fun solo combat, it’s a progression game, so why skip the part where even a failure grants a reward that ALL RECENT POPULAR ROGUE LIKES HAVE HAD?

I apologize for this rant, i just needed to get this off my chest to not punch or throw something.

play hunter warlock or tank class OR…get…a…group

No? Unless you’re very new to the game you’re not gaining anything from each run in most roguelikes.

As for the gameplay itself being fun, that’s just opinion, I think it’s been pretty fun so far.

I was playing hunter, like I said I’m not exactly the best at the game. My anger doesn’t stem from failing, it stems from spending 40 minuites for nothing in return.

And while I know you can group up, I thought Torghast was advertised as the solo content this expansion.

I grouped on a low ilvl alt because the choruses and devils were beating my behind in mort’regar. Those mobs are legit more difficult than the last boss. Then when we got to the last boss, I pretty much 2-shot him, in a 2-man group.

It was actually advertised as “Something you can do alone or play with friends”, so while you are somewhat correct it’s not the entire truth

I can not recommend the advice of getting a group together for it enough. A lot of your concerns about survival and slightly lower dps can be helped with grouping with others who can help complement you in the run.

It can be done solo, but of course gear does help. However there is no shame in looking in the group finder. Challenges to be found solo and with others.

the solution should never be “Just stop playing what you want!!” Torghast was advertised as soloable content.

You’re more likely to solo it than group with people from the group finder.

I suppose “every” run is a bit of a stretch. But there is still there still are rewards even if you fail, and to be fair I am just starting torghast, meaning I’m in the position where I would be unlocking things each run in most roguelikes.

I have to admit I don’t get how people find it fun, I’m not saying you’re wrong to feel that way, but even playing the spec I think is the most fun in the game and being someone who does find a good boss fight fun, Torghast is just so insanely slow and damn near every single actual danger is just “don’t stand in this”. At least as far as I’ve played.

It is, I’ve cleared it solo on several characters.

WoW in a nutshell really.

It is soloable, however like anything it comes easier with some gear. Time will bring the gear through dungeons, pvp and raids and just world content. Then you can overcome the challenges of torghast more easily. Though I admit some classes don’t have the best of time in Torghast and I hope that gets rebalanced.

I mean I know it’s the bread and butter, but nowadays Blizzards has generally learned to add some damn cheese

Sometimes you have to stand in the zone?

Really? Losing in Torghast is the worst gaming experience? You lose maybe, what, half an hour of playtime if you wipe a run?

Jeez, imagine how a Hardcore Diablo player feels when his character with 50 hours / played dies, or you screw up some Ironman Mode game 30 hours in.

Are there any of that in Torghast though?

Wait! yeah there is that one anima power that changes a bad zone to a good zone! But that’s like… the Kraft Slices of WoW mechanics

there is one that shoots out a zone that looks like general death zone, but boosts your damage too

Good for you? But like OP said, its not soloable for a lot of players especially new players

I have lost 20 hours of an Ironman achievement run in Crusader Kings because the achievement was bugged. That was somewhere on the same level, but the fact that 30x the loss was still about the same level of anger really says something about how bad the experience of losing in Torghast is.
