Lost Inventory Items

Hi, just resubscribed after a couple of years (last time I played was during Dragonflight).
I’ve noticed that on my main character all previous items have disappeared from my inventory and are not in the bank.

Some quests are still reporting the items in my inventory but I cannot find them.
E.g. Quest: They Grow Up So Fast
Quest is reporting that I have 16 Venomhide Baby Tooth but I cannot see them.

I recall having an almost full inventory before I stopped playing but now there is nothing except the items I’ve just received from completing quests.

Any ideas on where the items could be or how they could be restored?

If you used the item catch-up available before items you held previously were sent by mail (with one year expiry date if I remember). If you didn’t pick them up back then then they are most likely lost unless mail restore service includes them.

edit: looking at Kríh’s profile it has equipped items granted by the catch-up boosts so seems likely you used it but never retrieved your previous items from the mailbox before stopping playing.

I’m still getting used to all the changes since I last played but I think I only started the catch-up a few days ago and completed it yesterday (quest line in Arathi Highlands?). I’ve checked my mail and there is nothing there.

It also doesn’t explain some of my quest progress, if the quest log is reporting that I have 16 of an item then where are they?

Bug Report: All Inventory Items Missing

Did you check all the different tabs in your bank? If so, you may need to abandon and restart the quest to see if the game updates it.

Was just about to make a post about this exact same issue. Customer support have advised all of my items still exist, they’re just lost in the void.

I have tried:

  • Deleting and restoring the characters.
  • Checking my mail.
  • Replacing my bags.
  • Filling up all my bag slots.
  • Checking my bank.
  • Reloading UI.
  • Disabling addons.
  • Waiting/relogging.

Did you have any items left in your inventory? Weirdly, my Artifact weapon and Hearthstone were still there and had been moved to the first slots in my Backpack. But everything else (including my Heart of Azeroth which can’t be deleted/replaced) was gone.

So glad to hear it’s not just me :’) There is a post on the US forums here, I wonder if we’re experiencing something similar.

Yeah, I have checked all tabs and used the search box to try and find these items.

Abandoning the quests has crossed my mind but I’d rather than and retain my existing quest progress than have to start it again. This doesn’t feel like a solution more just a workaround.

I didn’t have to check what I had on me before the game took me to catch–up. Trying to get out of it also didn’t work so I had to complete it but like yourself, only my artifact weapon and Hearthstone were retained in my inventory from before.

Also, like yourself, my Heart of Azeroth was not in my bags. I did go to Silithus and ask for another from Magni Bronzebeard.

I haven’t been as brave and deleted my character but I’ve checked bank and mail, reset UI and Wow cache and disabled all addons too.

Thanks for the link, that certainly does sound like it could be our issue too.

Interesting that the Artifact/Hearthstone/Heart of Azeroth was the same as well, glad to hear Magni can give me another one.

Is it just the one character affected? I had a level 63 and level 60 (my mains) that lost everything. Weirdly my other lvl 60/all other characters were fine.

I’m away this weekend but I will take a look when I’m back and let you know if it’s affecting other characters.

@Ayresii, sorry for the delay… I’ve just tried a few of my characters and I have some interesting findings… it certainly sounds like a bug.

Logging into characters with Catch-up available

  • When selecting Pick up where you left off, characters inventories are empty except for hearthstone.
  • When selecting Start the catch up experience, characters is teleported to Arathi Highlands and their inventory is intact, containing all the items I expect to see.

Logging into characters with no catch-up available

  • Character inventory is kept intact, with all the items I expect to see.

Can you recall which options you selected for your characters?

Ooh good findings!! I’m away this weekend myself so will do a test with some of my other characters when I’m back.

Unfortunately I don’t remember what I chose for the two that have lost their inventories.

I do know that two with catch-ups available did not lose their inventory when I selected ‘Pick up where you left off’. I also tried the opposite, going straight into a catch-up experience and their inventory was also intact.

I’ll have an experiment too and see what I can find :slight_smile: I’ll also update my own post with some of the advice Blizzard Support gave, just in case it helps anyone else!
