Hi,
I just changed my pet and abandoned the previous without further steps. Once I tried to train my new pet just realized I’m super short in training points. I know it’s about the loyalalty and happiness at first but what happened those training points which remained in the abandoned pet? Are they lost? Just checked a couple of topics…no one talking about “untrain ur pet before abandon in order to refund ur training points” or something like that. So what happened that training points remained at the abandoned pet?
Thanks in advance
those points are lost , since you abandoned that pet. Training points are pet specific . but there is nothing to worry about even if youre pet is 60 it still gaining points untill te pet has them all 300 aslong you feed them.
the abilitys you have learnt are still on youre char
As already stated, training points are linked to your pet. At level 60 your new pet will gain training points each time it’s rep level with you increases. Keep it happy with food and run a few dungeons and it will be your best friend (rank 6) in no time.
If you tame a higher level pet they generally already have a bunch of training points on them (they have already learned some of the abilities).
These training points aren’t accessible, since they have been automatically used for those abilities.
this can result in -training points, but the loyalty level should make it go back to normal as soon as you reach best friend.
Use “petopia” (a site) to look for the best pet to tame of a certain type.
I didn’t think you could tame a pet that is higher in level than you? Don’t they always start in negative points?
A higher lvl pet as in between the 40-60.
I used to tame pets that were way lower level than me thinking i’d get extra training points. But the higher level pets have level 5 bite and level 3 dash etc. These cost a lot of training points. thus giving you negative points when you tame them. but the base amount of training points is the same. base stats are different I believe.
I’ll give an example:
let’s say leveling bite to lvl 2 is 5 training points
pet A is lvl 14 and has only bite lvl 1, no other abilities, you have 10 training points left.
pet B is lvl 14 and has only bite lvl 2, no other abilities, this pet only has 5 ability points.
the “pets” in the wild already have the higher levels upon taming them, reducing the total training points you have. If a specific pet has a lot of high lvl abilities you will end up with negative training points, the loyalty level gives you a certain amount per level, and it will then increase as it levels up, eventually giving you positive training points.
It’s quite a confusing system, on Petopia they have a much better explanation.
I got negative training points on a level 9 maybe 10, a wolf alpha near thunder bluff, -14 and this was yesterday. I needed claw or bite 2.
Yes, I tend to go for the pets that have 0 abilities (except for the standard main attack). It let’s me choose what I want to teach them, I tame other pets just to get the skill.
I never level the main attack myself, it costs to much focus imo (sometimes causing my pet not to use growl)
You should have a look at petopia for this as well, it shows the attack speed, health starting abilities of every tameable beast in classic. Really useful to avoid terrible pets.
Some look the same, but their stats differ drastically.
That’s why I tame The Rake at level 10, 1.2 attack speed, my macro is
/startattack (this is probably not needed)
/cast growl
/cast Hunter’s Mark.
So it uses growl straight away.
I also had a weird thing happen yesterday on the plainstrider beak quest, my cat, the rake, was following the plainstrider by taking a step, waiting, taking another step, etc behind the plainstrider and not attacking until it changed direction.
It had been trained in growl 2, bite 2 and claw 2 but didn’t use any of them until I attacked the plainstrider or it changed direction.
That is indeed a weird thing, I’ve also have had my pet not attack whilst it was on defensive stance. Not sure if this has something to do with the retail game, where pets have some different behaviour for stances.
The thing is it was right behind the plainstrider, just out of range, even pressing Ctrl-1 didn’t help.
its normal behavier for the rake doing so, the plainstrider is yellow (friendly untill attacked) , so pappa blizz has giving this realitty feat to the rake ,just like real life sneaking uppon it. not always but it happens. aslong it stand still ofcourse
for missing the growl i give you a hint , dont use growl on auto but manually.
download details for ex. set up dmg done and tiny treath, if you are high on aggro hit the growl , it take some time to get used to it but the next is always growl because its the cheapest ability they have.
if youre pet has bite even better you always have enough focus to cast growl.
