Im using AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB Ram, RX 5600 XT. I can play shadowlands on ultra on 60fps. I keep getting low fps on average settings in WoW Classic. I changed my GPU from auto to my card in settings. Not sure what else I could do.
Update or turn off addons and check fps.
That didnt do any difference. It seem like amount of ppl around is affecting it but not always. In a city when there are some ppl around (lets say 20 - which is THAT much) my fps drops but sometimes even when I run thru barrens by myself there are moments when fps drops.
Not sure if that helps, but after i came back to classic after like year, my fps was bit lower while gpu was going quite harder than needed for such game.
I found out that i had way bigger resolution ( not exactly resolution but i cant remember its exact name)
In options, u have resolution, 1920x1080 or whatever u using, and then there is some option like world render scale or something, i had that on 4K, try to check it, might be it…
Just checked, I have it set to 1920-1080 and render scale to 100%
Yeah I know the problem, it’s the fact that classic doesn’t utilize GPU as much as it does CPU.
Thats bs. Im playing on Ultra with 3440x1440 21:9 (100% render) with complet ultra with a 5 3600, rtx 2060super and 16gb Ram with like 100FPS+
I’m happy to hear that, maybe there is some kind of fix then. Cuz I can run shadowlands on ultra np
That’s the authentic vanilla experience.
You have no idea how many people you’ve made jealous boasting about your low fps on classic. I bet there’s so many people who want to be you right now, like Lorran for one.
Would be nice if any blizz employee could give me some tips on how to fix it
Since 9.0.5 in retail FPS dropped for lots of players too and that seems to be still in the game (can you enter Spires of Ascension and check if the FPS isn’t lower than usuall?)
If it’s classic only and quite noticeable then more debugging would be needed, like HwInfo to chart RX 5600 XT and CPU usage (plus clocks, temperature etc) to see if they are utilized correctly. And if so then looking at latency with latencymon and also trying to kill any overlay app (Discord and other), apps that “optimize stuff” or weird Windows features like wallpaper rotator.
I have exactly the same problem - logged today for Classic raid reset, FPS is like less than 20, while in Retail it is capped @ 60 fps on Max settings.
I suspect updated AMD graphics driver is to blame - I updated to “non-whql-radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-21.3.2-win10-64bit-mar29”. Tried going to “radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-21.3.1-win10-64bit-mar24” but pretty much the same. I might go back to older driver to try to see if that helps.
Ryzen 5800 + 5700xt here.
As the problems are somewhat common (check the technical forum) it may not be just the drivers.
On 9.0.5 retail the only places I get fps drop are some legion zones. I’m not very tech savy but I downloaded HwInfo and got log. Its pretty long so I’ll just give a link to uploaded text file: https ://file.io/SlPItt5x4VF7 Tried closing any backgrounds apps but that didn’t change anything.
Stupid suggestion: Close the launcher. It takes up game fps for me. I accidentally opened two launchers yesterday and my fps dropped to between 3 and 7 = unplayable.
Maybe old Classic does not like the new launcher
imagine not having an rtx 3090
3090 is old news, this is the future: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0frNP0qzxQc
Closing launcher didnt help, closing every background application also didnt
I’m experiencing the same problem as you. On retail I get smooth stable fps locked at 75 with everything set on ultra, with no issues at all. It stays on 75 no matter what i do.
Graphic set on ultra In classic however, my fps hover between 30-50 fps even at places like the starting zone for humans, and it’s far from as smooth as in retail.
My cpu is a 5600x, and gpu an 6800 xt, also looking for a fix but I have not found one yet
Hopefully some magic gnome engineer working in Blizzard will come up with some tricks.
