M+ Key depletion

Greetings,

I was wondering what most people’s thoughts here are about key depletion in Mythic+. I feel like they have improved the M+ experience drastically but there’s one thing I don’t like which is the depletion of a key upon failure. I feel like I get double punished when we fail the key somehow.

What is the benefit of this?

There’s none. Sooner or later blizzurd will realize people don’t want to spend an hour looking at LFG groups and they’ll add solo queue for m+ and it’ll work like rifts in d3. Every time you successfuly complete +X you get an option to queue for +1 key level. Keys for specific dungeons and depletion are outdated systems.

If keys didn’t deplete people would just kick others from their groups and find replacements all the time.

Double punishment only existed in Legion, where a depleted key had to be timed to reactivate it then run again to time it/improve it.

It happens anyway

As if this is not the norm right now?

Besides I would care less about failing the key thus more easily invite people because the consequences aren’t as bad.

If you’re really saying that losing the time spent AND getting your key lowered which means you have to grind it up again to make any progress in some cases is NOT double punishment then I do not know how lost in the sauce you are.

But I forget that WoW gamers don’t respect their own time in the slightest…

No if they remove you the key is depleted.

If there was no depletion there is zero incentive to keep any group going.

So in your opinion it’s better to keep someone hostage for 30+ minutes?

Do point out where I said anyone was being kept hostage.

However if anyone thinks that no depletion will suddenly make the pug scene more pleasant they are very much mistaken.

The forum will be flooded with, I was removed mid key. Or we had only just started and now I’m no longer in the group etc etc. It will not make anything better, it will just create another problem instead.

I’ve seen people getting kicked midkey like twice since Legion and in one case it was someone trolling and the other time they thought the guy wouldn’t get loot.

yes but now only the lead is punished for others mistakes or trolling. if i q my key and play well why should i get punished for some clown leaving

So don’t pug if you can’t stand people leaving when they’ve had enough of the clown show that’s going on in a key.

When there is something at stake, the activity you are doing becomes more rewarding.

Simple as that.

However. Depletions are annoying in higher keys atleast.

I have proposed two suggestions (A) to use crests and flightstones to upgrade and reroll keys. Or (B) if you time someone elses key, you also get an upgrade.

Both suggestions keep the stakes, but make “homework” keys less of a chore

You can just have it that if you remove someone from the group the key is depleted, but if they leave it’s not? There has to be a middle ground that fixes this problem. Key depletion has never been a positive part of the game, you should have an incentive to finish the dungeon, not leave to avoid mild inconvenience or leave to avoid having a “fail” on your record (as some players will do).

I hate M+ and the systems around it, hate what it did to the game and how it killed guild raiding too.

Until someone gets their friend to leave so that they can just start over.

I honestly dont think there is any perfect system. There will always be something or some way round it.

Removing key depletion is great for keyholders but not so great for the others. Its great for groups that do keys together but no so great for pugs.

If Blizzard makes changes it will just shift where the problems lie. Thats their call and who knows maybe they will consider it.

If we’re talking about ninja leavers and trolls and griefers then like yestoday after the second boss in ruby m+9 the demon hunter tank decided to toss the chance we had to time it away he glided away and killed himself repeatilly and when we asked him not to he acted aggresive and he called us toxic for saying we’re reporting him for acting that way. Can people like him get banned?

Everyone is punished by losing their time. The leader is punished more by having his key deplete on top of that.

But keep in mind, the leader also has the advantage of being the only one not being “veted” to join and getting insta invited, while everyone else has to compete with everyone else in the queue.

Each player when playing m+ has a choice of sitting in queue for hours, or risking his own key by being the leader. This is the tradeoff.

Key depletion is a garbage mechanic, if you want to know why then go talk to asmongold. It adds nothing to the game at all and just discourages and demotivates people to make their own group because they know the moment some loser leaves the grp the key is bricked.

Anyone defending key depletion should take a look at themselfs in the mirror and realise they are the problem for wanting to waste their own life on a meaningless mechanic.

Did you play in MoP? Have you played PTR M+? Beta M+?

People will still leave, leader will kick people and reset if it doesn’t work out.

It’s funny you think solo queue M+ would work. Tanks and healers are already rarer. The upcoming expansion affixes will make them rarer still. The random queue would be full of DPS with even less of a clue than normal. You would have to pay me 300k gold to even consider joining as tank. They would need the biggest carrot in the known universe to make those 2 roles join it. We get instant invites anyway. Even off meta in most cases outside of the very highest keys. We can custom pick what comp we want to join and what rio.

The key system itself may change drastically and it isn’t the worse idea. But M+ queue? No way lol.

Yes but when we get stuck with trolls how is that fair
