Macro commands and addons

Hello, guys.

Just so you’d get why I’m asking: I’ve been playing vanilla on private servers since 2005, made it to retail by the end of TBC, quickly realized I was more interested in the old world, made a classic guild… Then WotLK came and Cataclysm was looming in the distance, so I went back to pirate life. Valkyrie-WoW, Nostalrius, Elysium - I’ve been there until 2017 when the latest was split into two and I didn’t feel like staying on either of the sides.

I’ve stopped following any forum drama back at Nost launch and only the echo of those sometimes made it’s way to me. So, naturally, I wasn’t following and reading up on the official Classic release either.

So. Back to the topic. I’d really appreciate if you could point me in the right direction. I tried to find the full list of 1.13 macro commands, but to no avail. Was it even released to the public, or does Blizzard keep it a secret for some reason? Feels kinda awkward to live without macro commands after those 14 years.

And about the addons. Back in 1.12 I was running a heavily modified interface, but most addons that I used are not ported to 1.13 and it doesn’t seem like they ever will be or that there are any analogs.

I’d sure like to know the reasoning behind that.
See, I was under the impression, that no-change crowd won.
But then there’s that.

I found this when I was looking, maybe it helps you too.

Thanks, but as far as I can tell it’s a guide for one of the later expansions of the game. The available list of commands was changing along with the game versions, so I doubt it will be of any help now.

And anyway, I already know basics about macros - what I need is the list of commands and their synthax for more advanced stuff.

Right now I don’t even recieve error messages for some reason. Those are just nowhere to find almost as if Blizzard don’t want us going beyond the basics.
But maybe that’s just my paraonia talking.

Hello Somber,
i haven’t found any “Official” macro guide and most of my works are from failures and learning from others.

I could share a US forum topic a bit updated for classic:

but lacks of some commands.

You could build macro here in forums, you’ll found someone that could help you. Even type in serch bar “Macro” to maybe learn something new.

About Addons, many players uses something about Twitch that download automatically updates of the one you already own.
Or, you could use the website “CurseForge” → wow → classic and download which addons you like the most.

So Classic uses the same API as the current retail expansion?
Then I find it kind of weird, that there are separate 8.2.5 and 1.13.2 versions of addons on curseforge.

Yes, the API is the same as retail, but some mod/commands doesn’t work (i do not play BfA, so i can’t help you about this).

CurseForge has addons for all wow versions and is used for both Classic and BfA players. You have to check in the download window of CurseForge the right version for the addons.
Probably there’s something better but i know just this.
I hope I was helpful, feel free to post the macro that doesn’t work, me and a lots of players could give you some hint to figure out.

Well, it clears the water for me just a bit. Hopefully, with the retail guides I’ll be able to achieve my goals. At least now I know where to dig.

And still, I was surprized - shocked really - that there’s constant whine here about how easy the content is, about spellcleaves and what not. And still I haven’t seen a single thread on interface changes.

I mean, there are hundreds of addons for 1.12. Take X-Perl. Latest game version it exists for is 3.2.1 (2014). After that the author just disappeared. And to make something similar with my unit frames I had to tweak almost everything in ShadowedUF. I may be severely lazy and nostalgic, but it seems they just don’t make 'em like that anymore.

And as much as I hate to be a negative nay-saying Nancy, it makes me think. I get, that Blizzard was in a hurry. But what kind of decision was that? Eh, simply copy-paste the API from retail, don’t even think twice about backward compatibility? In a revival of the game, that happened mostly due to the private server crowd, which showed there’s a huge interest and we’re ready to pay.

And I did, even thought I knew the API was different. It was one of the first things I asked about. Again, hate to be that guy, but I payed and it’s little things like that over and over making me think about if I’m gonna keep paying. If I’m really the kind of guy the retail Classic was targeted for.

But nevermind my nagging - seems like I’m one of the very last few that still care about such nonsence here anyway.

X-Perl is now Z-Perl

Thanks. I’m gonna look into that.
Maybe I better make a list of addons with descriptions.
If only I was sure there’s any interest among addon creators and enthusiasts.

  • There are plenty addons, you rarely see a topic about that because people ask in in-game /world or /general chat about addon advices or they could log in in CurseForge and ask for some update/improvement directly to the author.

Near 15 years has passed, you couldn’t blame an author if he do not update anymore an old addon.

But i have (maybe) an answer for you. https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/perl-classic-unit-frames
A simil x-perl addon, made by a lover of x-perl.

  • For more info about the birth of Classic, in the Blizzcon2018 you can find on youtube a 46’ storytelling video in which you could hear some “how” and some “why” about Classic. Maybe it could answer some of your questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhKkP8LryYM

I don’t blame the author - I blame Blizzard. Kind of an old habit
But maybe I’ll stop after watching this. We’ll see.
