Mage or Rogue TBC

Hi there, only played WoW for few months now and currently playing Mage, I also like the look of Rogue. Out of the two “if any” would you say is the easier of the two to master and get to grips of? What has the easier rotation etc. I play on a PVE realm so don’t World PvP but I really like BG’s/Raiding and maybe some tiny amount of Arena but not much.

Mages or rogues will have a hard spot getting a raid spot with most guilds min-maxing ;p
Otherwise, I know rogues are good in PvP at least

Mage is the easier class though.

Mage is easier to play in both pvp and pve. Mage is better for PvE because it’s ranged dps, and both are great PvP classes. Rogue is a master disabler and has multiple viable combs in arena. Frost mage also has a ton of utility and is also great in PvP.

I would go mage. Caster dps (easier raidspot) lets just hope enough mages reroll from vanilla to hunter/lock. Mage is also superfun in PvP.

thanks for your responses

With the amount of warlocks there will be, I’d go rogue on a pvp server. Locks are basically a free kill in equal gear as a rogue. Mages get annihilated by warlocks. For pve I’d choose Mage though.

thanks for your response, I mainly play BGs

Nah, mage is much harder than rogue in pvp especially in 3vs3 arena. It’s harder to play a mage good at least. 1vs1 just spam icelance though.
I still remember how i always felt relieved after switching to my rogue after i played my mage in arena back then.

I would go mage.

Pros:

  • Expect less discrimination to get a raid spot
  • casual / 1v1 is brain dead simple: CD freeze and spam icelance
  • you can level fast and solo in slave pen by parhing exploit
  • still best class to make gold (see over)
  • still part of the best 3v3 team (RMP)

Cons:

  • not as many CC tools as a rogue
  • for a skilled player, less depth than rogue
  • hard countered by BC fotm (hunter / lock)

If you only want to play pvp / arena and ignore pve, i would go undead rogue (to counter locks / priests).

I disagree - to play Rogue at the top level you need to make less mistakes as it’s less forgiving and as Frost Mage you’ll rarely be the one being focused if your playing RMP for example and if you are you have better defensive cool downs and more ways to break CC.

also depends if you like melee or ranged, for me rogue was easy to play, i totally cant play ranged classes.

That’s not what i’m talking about. I’m talking about your role in the team. Because your spectrum of possibilities is much larger in a teamfight, which is admittetly an advantage for your class, you also have to watch out for much more as mage.
As a rogue you don’t have the same skillset availiable and you are more focused just on yourself beside a kick here and a blind there, whereas mage you are constantly monitoring everything trying to set something up.
