Mage or Warlock (im new)

I still haven’t reached level 60 cuz I haven’t really had the time and when I had I’ve played BFA or done other things.

Now I want to reach 60 and I have the time to do it but I don’t know if I should o Mage or Warlock.

I don’t know how either of them are at 60.

Im leveling with my friend who’s a warrior if that will change anything

Warlock are cooler imo. I like their theme and that they get free mount. I don’t know how annoying it is with soul shards but I hope it’s not that frustrating.

Mages seems really easy to level and to play all the way up to 60 and forward. They have a bit of everything- Free food and drinks are nice adn portals, teleports. Though it seems boring to play Mage cuz it feels like everyone is a Mage. Idk but it seems to easy to play a Mage it will get boring but I don’t know.

I generally like being tanky, survive and being able to deal alot of damage. Self heal is nice.

Let me know what you think I should play

I know this isn’t much to go on and it’s hard to tell someone else what to play but I have no idea what to do and I don’t know how they are at 60 while some of you do.

Thanks!

Warrior - always need tanks.

Would appreciate some serious answers…

First aid is your friend - the rest of this sentence describes a warrior :+1:

But it’s about warlock or mage not warrior

You only need 2 or 3 while levelling, not a bag full, that’s for good DPS during raiding. Mages are probably 30-35% of the total DPS classes people have.

Mages get AoE levelling at 22-24 making it easier but Warlock get a free tank.

Personally I am levelling a mage as my second class with shaman being my first.

Just don’t forget a good wand while levelling.

Well Oki - then from what you’ve described a warlock. But a warrior will be more useful and groupable in the long run :+1:

Thanks!

I’ve realized that in classic I like ranged classes more, idk why. But I’ll consider warlock

Warlocks if you want to have fun.
Mage if you want everything to be easy.

Aw man is it that easy bbeing a mage?
I’d prob go warlock then

But portals is sooo op to have or is it?

Some points to consider:

  1. Mages are super overpopulated, warlocks are not.
  2. Both are equally boring in raids, but mage does more dps until naxx i think, where warlocks catch up.
  3. Mage is more mobile and flexible in pvp, but warlocks can be tankier.
  4. Lvling factors and mounts don’t mean anything, you only do it once.
  5. portals are great, but you can pretty much always buy them easily as well.
  6. both classes have great ways of gold farming

I have 3 60’s. Neighter is a mage, there are so many mages about to give you a portal.

Mage.
+: pvp, gold farming, built in threat mitigation / hit ratings , easy high dps
-: many mage (because of gold / minmaxing), braindead rotation in raid

I played lock back in Vanilla. Went feral this time around. But warlock is sadly the underperforming (at same gear lvl) edgy little brother of mages. And while guilds stack mages, they don’t stack locks. So raid spot is an issue.

Then again I play feral now, so I will probably never see a raid again in Classic haha :D. What I mean is that raiding might not be your focus. Warlock is fine then.

It’s easy being a Mage once you know all the tips and tricks.
For easy leveling you have to learn how and where to AoE farm and this is may take some time. Single target it’s definitely not great.
As a lock you’ll find the leveling process a lot more comfortable.

About fun, for me it’s the Mage here. You can do more interesting stuff with this class. It has a good toolkit. For example you can “spell cleave” in SM, quite entertaining rather than normal runs.
PvP wise is quite the same either you play Frost or PoM Pyro.

That’s me. That’s why obviously I main a Mage. Everyone likes a class depending on their play style.

If you like Warlocks you should definitely make one.
They are easy to level, fun in PvP, and not geared starved like dps war/druids.

Btw

As an Warlock you can make more gold than a Mage solo farming. Not much more but more:).
That if you don’t plan to boost people.

Also not needing gold for the mounts especially at level 40 is not bad. That gold will help you alot.

Ok. This is highly discussable.

Warlock. There are too many mages and their gear is highly contested.

warlock, not even a question

I guess, but the value of the lvling factors drops the more you play the game at lvl 60. If you quit the game as soon as you ding, I suppose they matter more.

for your first char? Get a mge. It is way easier to lvl, and it can farm the gold you need for mounts and training etc.
Warlock is a pain to lvl untill it get 48. from there it becores stronger and stronger.
