Make the entire WORLD relevant with this one simple trick!

TL;DR: Add world quests/rares/treasure chests/dragonriding races on all continents, and reward progress on those with unique cosmetics.

  • Give each old continent a repeatable reward track.
  • Completing the reward track grants you a box which lets you choose one piece of armor from a new cosmetic set, exclusive to that continent.
  • Progress towards the reward track is earned by doing regular questing, world PvP, dragonriding races and world quests on that continent.
  • Brand new world quests and dragonriding races are added on all continents.
  • Kalimdor and the EK get two separate reward tracks each, because they’re so big.
  • Completing the full cosmetic set of a continent rewards you with a mount.
  • Completing all reward tracks of all continent grants a unique title.

Do this and the world will start to feel insanely more populated.

I like the idea overal.
But they’d have to create new rewards per… Season? Expansion?
To keep it worthwhile.

You could indeed add new reward tracks when a new expansion is released.
In any case, you will always have to make a new one for the “current expansion” than becomes “last expansion” - like Dragonflight when the next expansion will release.

Since grinding all tracks on all continents enough times to get the full set is already going to be quite time consuming, there will always be people progressing on those no matter what.

When a new track is released, people should be able to choose on which cosmetic set they wish to progress first.

Hey Slapface, that proposal does have potential indeed. :+1:

Thanks.
I was elected Lead Game Designer by the forums for a reason, after all.

Mmmmh… Maybe then it’ll be less messy to just earn a specific currency and have vendors? Multiple track choices becomes unmanageable after some time.

This is a detail and there is definitely room for discussion.

I personally think that watching a bar fill up is more visually stimulating and feels more rewarding for people, compared to having yet another new currency to keep track of.

Also, reward tracks allow you to lock the rewards to one zone, whereas with currencies, you’d need to make a new one for every continent - which adds to the “currency bloat” situation.

Just wait for a revamp.

Now that Classic exists, there’s no point of having the “old world” present. Let it evolve into the new world! Of course, the old world will still exist because of instanced content.

Hey guys, we have an optimist here :joy:

Joking on side, i am actually against revamp, because nicer tree or mailbox whatever will not make process of doing same old quest more interesting.

Either proper wow2 with new story and all that, or continuation of existing model.

I agree and I think you misunderstand me. I would still be in favour of a bar filling up.
But at the end of the track you get currency that you can spend how you want; this way you can decide the order in which you want to aquire set pieces.

This is true. But I still think ‘multiple choices per track’ gets more messy than several currencies; hell, maybe they could just make 1 currency for all the legacy tracks and you can choose what you want to focus on.
That way it’ll take just as long to complete all of it, but you’d be able to more quickly complete any one particular transmog set (in case one of them strikes your fancy more than the others).

Alernatively they could go more ‘hardcore’ and just offer the rewards in order.
In other words; you cannot start earning the newer rewards before you’ve earned the old ones.
That option might not go down well with everyone though.

None of that really appeals to me.

So far making us go back to old zones for stuff has been a somewhat meh.

The dragon racing is already coming to old content so that’s that really.

That’s completely fine. Not everything is for everyone.
And since it is ‘only’ transmog; you can skip it if you’re not interested.

They wouldn’t ‘make’ you. You have a very clear choice not to engage with any of it.

My definition of a revamp is not just replacing assets with higher definition ones.
A revamp would also entail making the content within the zone up-to-date with the current state of the world (although I would more prefer ‘ever green content’ there - stuff that won’t show its age in a few expansions down the line; a prime example of this is the Cataclysm update; loads of places in the world are forever in the state that the world was in shortly after Deathwing’s ‘break out’.

I would like to add, that if the world would be revamped; I would still like the old versions to be available - I think that was one of the mistakes the devs made when they implemented Cata; just getting rid of the old version of the world.

Clearly you don’t know what revamp entails.

I’m not sure what gave you the impression I don’t collect :stuck_out_tongue:

However I’ve disliked every go back to old content or re-use old content thing they’ve done so far. I want them to make new things, not recycle the old. I hate it in raiding and m plus too. I want new things from the game, not for them to just lazily rehash old stuff I have done a million times before while levelling or when they were actually the current expansion. I also dislike all the phases it creates for zones and how awkward that becomes when you need to go anywhere.

A currency is still not needed to achieve this.
In GW2 for example, when you open your reward chest, you are greeted with a list of rewards and you get to pick one.
You can also preview those rewards from this menu.

I would agree with this for any game that is not an MMORPG.
But this is an MMORPG. I want to travel across a massive world, not be locked in “the new zone” from “the new patch”.
I absolutely want Blizzard to “recycle” the old world, and introduce new things there to keep everything alive and make it feel dynamic, full of people and full of life.

Fair enough.

I like the whole world to be worthwhile to spend time in.

Sure, but I’m thinking long term. The list would become prohibitively large at some point.

Not really, no.

Because X set would be linked with X reward chest, that you get from completing X reward track.

The items from Y set will be find in Y reward chest, after you’ve selected the appropriate reward track.

It would be nice if world PVP could get a little boost and have events going on all over the old zones.

They would really need to give some good rewards to entice the players sticking to arena and BG for PVP.

LONG term. What about 5 years from now; that’s 5 chests. Etc.

Anyway, we could debate minor details all day. The overal idea has merit! That’s what’s important.
