They’re your typical “good dragons” like we have in countless high fantasy media and are sung about in countless power metal songs.
Sort of, but not with that wording. Dragons are generally supposed to be selfish creatures and not easily sociable. Some of them want to hoard gold, some of them just like to sit inside a cave and do nothing except eat adventurers who happen to stumble upon them, some of them just want to fly around and roar just to instill fear on the “lesser” ground lifeforms.
Instead, the majority of dragons and dragonkin we get in Dragonflight are benevolent creatures, forming bonds, thinking about nurturing and protecting species other than their own, taking photographs and helping ducks for duck’s sake… They are more hippie than even Night Elves in Teldrassil!
Even the good dragons will fight evil and wreak havoc. But excepting the dragons that are part of the repeatable world content (like the 4 World Bosses), the ones that were shown fighting were: Chromie, Eternus, Razsageth, Fyrakk and Deios.
Alexstrasza fought Raszageth, Wrathion came to her aid. Wrathion also fought the Djaradin. Kalecgos fought Raszageth as well and the Azure flight came in and made her flee. Somnikus fought against the Primalists and almost died. Ysera came back and drove the primalists from the Emerald dream. And these are just the examples from the top of my head.
Oh, I forgot, they said that they’re a family at one point so obviously all this doesn’t count and it’s like a cartoon for 3 year olds. Like Lord of the rings, since it’s also about friendship being important and how it conquers evil.
Gief casters guitars!!!
I kinda miss zones like Tirisfal, or Eastern Plaguelands. This is the vibe that is missing from the current wow.
Shadowlands had 2 zones that fit that bill imo, arguably 3 if you want to count the maw, but I’d get why you might not.
I do love Tirisfal Glades myself, but I think Revendreth was very great as well and definitely hit that spot for me, especially outside the cities. Maldraxxus on the other hand had big EPL and scourge vibes.
Was there a quest where I could ‘save the humans’ by smashing their heads in with a shovel? I can’t remember.
But yes, those zones were similar enough I guess.
Another is the PEGI 12, which seems nowadays to lead to much more cencoring than in the past. I’d prefer them raising the game to PEGI 18 - considering that they seem to have trouble making new players interested in the game and the veterans are only growing older, I think this wouldn’t lose them any players, but it certainly would make the story more compelling to the older audience.
I agree in the sense that their original playerbase are grownup.
Samurai jack did it right, the newest season is actually bloody and gore.
Metal? Y’all do know most of the heavy metal megastars have been in rehab connecting with their feelings? Metallica even have a documentary about it where they had to get a version of marriage counselling to be able to continue together.
And with absolutely no insult intended to the man James Hetfield recently had a very public breakdown onstage.
They are all family men now, even grandfathers, some are even born again Christians. (Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain is an example, even Morbid Angels old drummer)
Their metal stage personas are not real life.
And…voice
For reference, Shadow the Hedgehog, the game where you have a gun and shoot humans, had rating E10+, which is between PEGI 7 and 12.
Did you know that the water in WoW is not actually wet? Thrall also did not actually kill Garrosh, it was all just pixels on a screen! Mind blowing stuff if you think about it.
I think most people are aware that metal artists don’t rip heads off baby kittens and eat children alive. It’s an aesthetic people liked, that these people are now missing because it is no longer in the game.
When people go to a metal concert they obviously know that it’s a show. It’s just entertainment. And it has been a thing even before modern metal. Alice Cooper has had amazing live shows for what feels like centuries now. And if you’d meet the man in real life you’d be astounded at how normal he is. It is like that with every form of entertainment. Fans know it’s fake, but they want the show because it is entertaining.
And just for the record, I find most metal (and especially power metal) to be cringe inducing to a point where I could power my PC with my eye rolling. I wouldn’t want WoW’s awkward metal phase to come back even if they paid me. But a very large part of the community loved that phase, and now they are unhappy that it’s gone and has been replaced with soft, safe, corporate messaging.
Also:
Don’t. Just… don’t.
lol
Look there’s enough of these topics to know what OP means by metal, it’s Monday so lets change the word to avoid being locked. It’s a fantasy ideal which doesn’t actually exist in the real world or even nature.
wow… new low…
It doesn’t have to exist in real world. That’s why it’s fantasy. This is such a weak argument, but what did I expect. People outside the Southern US unironically using the “y’all” so often tend to conflate fantasy with the real world.
What, aren’t people allowed to have an opinion on music and the associated aesthetic anymore? You’d probably have some unfavourable opinions on some of the stuff I listen to, and it’s well within your rights to describe your disdain in whichever flowery language you choose to.
Not just these days. It was like that when I got into it almost 20 years ago. I never stopped blasting mid 00s Metalcore.
I do not regret what i did in the Ruby Sanctum.
And i would do it again and again, those over grown lizards will make some fine Frostwyrms.
