No, it doesn’t work. Essences cost echoes, corruptions cost echoes and now you need echoes for cores too. That’s broken. It might work for catching up on a main but it definitely doesn’t work for alts.

Ok, start a new char and say it’s working just fine. 30k echoes on essences, before you have a barely functional character. Then you need to spend echoes on corruptions. Then you need to spend it on cores too.
Is the system bugged? Cant buy more cores after reaching 89 corruption resistance
You are not setting priorities. I started my shaman and cloak saturday 1 week ago. I never been on mecha and i started the questline. Now i am 6000 rep away from revered. You can just buy essences the old way. You can get your focussing iris the same way like before. vision of perfection is easy obtainable, crucible of flame you just get anyway. You are not going to spend 30k echoes on essences.
I’m not doing any stupid timegated rep grinds again. I’ve already done them enough times.
Like i said; priorities. Your choices. You do indeed want to get everything for free.

No, I want the system to actually be usable. I have 150k visions on my alt. I can still only get one upgrade per week from them.

There is only a hand full of essences that you really have to buy because you otherwise won’t be able to get them (noone pugs palace anymore or queues lfr) or just extremely timegated (rep ones). Corruptions are rng and bound to a cycle. You normally want one specific corruption only anyways and until this one is avalaible again you have all the time to farm echos and spend them on cores. You need the cores anyway in order to be able to wear the corruptions in the first place.
Yes, it may be questionable to make everything bound to one currency but you get this currency from almost everything you do and it is at least a compromise.
So stop whining.

TL/DR: the amount of echoes needed is astounding to get your cloak on the same level of resistance and you cant spend any echoes on corruption
Hence they should have gone with the “cores from horrifics till you caught up”
Gives you a “reason” to keep doing them, once again it isnt enjoyable content but still.
But for all the people saying: omg you want everything without any effort.
Lets do some math about catching up the cloak to the current cap of 92 resistance. (Yes i know you dont need that on alts most of the times)
92 resistance minus 50 base resistance on a rank 15 cloak:
42 resistance to gain / 3 = 14 malefic cores.
That makes a total of 14x2000= 28.000 echoes.
4 essenced for your new alt, given you only need 4: 10.000 echoes (and yes, some are easily obtainable by the “old” means but take time)
Before buying any corruption, i already have to work towards 38.000 echoes.
Just a fast breakdown of Echoes gained:
M+ 15 weekly cache: 1500 echoes
Weekly Pvp cache: 1000 echoes
All assaults per reset: 1325 echoes
All emissaries per week: 1750 echoes
Full horrific vision clear: 750 echoes
Between 40-400ish echoes from a M+ key / winning BGs / Arenas
And raid bosses also give echoes, but not entirely sure what amount.
Grand total for all activities on a weekly “cap” (and by far the best gain/played ratio)
6325 echoes per week.
Given you manage to do all that, and also run a ton of raidbosses / arena / m+ runs, my guestimate would be, that if you can gain 10k echoes per week, you are doing a stellar job.
Add to that, that most of the above wont be possible with a fresh character for atleast a week or 2. (I.E. Full Horrific clears / m+15 / arena cap msybe etc)
So that boils down to almost 4 weeks, before you even caught up your cloak (adding in the Nzoth / Horrifics full clears of 2 per week as system to keep up)
But in these 4 weeks, you cant buy any corruption effects, because that will lower the amount of cloak upgrades by a large margin.
And ofc, if you miss out next week on buying your Rank 3 corruption, it will be back on the vendor in another 4 weeks.
So for everyone saying: omg easy way to catch up. Just do the math.
And just imagine with all of the above: but i just wanted to play an alt to have a different role or enjoy another class or playstyle. But having to work towards these amount of echoes, isnt doable in a “casual” i just wanna play that alt a few hours a week playstyle.

Its starting to feel like those Genie,crossroad demon wishes where they have some awful twist to them.
And i just might have an idea on where to increase it,and still having the touch they want.Increase it from Emissary chests from 250-1000(cause they love there MAU),and from Daily LFD(cause we know they love to put mythic players and low difficulty players together)

I think i had a week where i got almost 15k, on my main obviously. And i just accept that a couple of levels lower on the cloak is fine on my alt. What is 1 month of catching up? I did last week a +15 with a cloak 8 on a 446 ilvl char (togather with a lovely 420 fire mage and an offspec survival hunter). The char is already playable.
