The community, the love for vanilla shared by everyone (the players, the admins, the mods on the nostalrius forums, their devs, their gms) all the pvp events organized on the forums, the memes, the videos, how tons of good pvpers today were born with nostalrius yada yada yada…
It’s weird to feel that way when we have classic today isn’t it? I’m not even hating on it, it’s not nearly as bad as some people say it is compared to the original vanilla, or nostalrius…although I definitely felt like nost was a superior experience for me.
I don’t know, I guess the real big difference between the two is that we felt that Nost was 100% made out of pure love, from real geeks, for thousands of other geeks, with no real profitability plan behind it all.
Being nostalgic of nostalrius…waddya know
NB: most private servers were a scam btw, like 90% easily imo. So when I’m syaing “money” wasn’t involved in it I’m purely talking about nostalrius and the very few other servers that were like it.
The unfortunate problem is that Nostalrius was free of charge to play. They didn’t have to listen to whiners that would quit if things weren’t changed so they wouldn’t have ever changed anything to cater to people that would realistically just want to turn it into retail. No fee, people leaving is no loss to them.
But, on the other hand there is probably a more diverse audience playing CLassic than played Nostalrius because private servers are more dedicated niche audience. So you probably have more people who are negative about stuff.

The overall mentality is alot more positive that’s for sure.
It’s easy to derail moral in classic with the very vocal displeased crowd.
the worst part of it is when they try to convince you that wow in you memories was harder because you were actually “bad” and “new” to the game and “young”.
I was done listening to them, when i read it. WoW never was a hard game, true, but you had to had some skill to survive.
Nost /Elys recreated that feeling soo good and all blizzard did is they destroyed this project, like they will destroy anything that gets into their way of vision. And what we have now? A wow that thinks of it self as superior, when it clearly needs wind of change. Classic is an utter failure in the eyes of someone who played vanilla and on sev. private servers. to keep comparing.
On top fo this. Blizzard framed private servers as the bad one, but clearly blizzard is the devil. Private server that want a vanilla recreation, never used a sub or microtransactions to fill up their bank accounts. They never sold gold on several sites “diguised” as daughter firms. They never added a Token to even sell more gold. They did not patch for the Brokers and Stocks. And they did not take away freedom of choice, by adding badly scripted forum bots that spread indoctrination.
