Well, for me atleast this goes as so that I talk to people how I would wish they speak to me. So in practise if someone starts speaking to me first I will also reflect their tone back whatever it is and otherway around I approach them as I would wish they speak to me. Its like the old saying (not sure if elsewhere than just here in Finland) that the forest will answer as one shouts into it
