Fun Mechagnome Fact of the Day

Let’s talk about Hyper Organic Light Originator.

This unique racial acts as a temporary threat reduction via duplicate clones. It has a couple of quite niche uses beyond the cool aesthetic.

When summoned the clones start with threat equal to your own and your own threat generation is temporarily reduced for a short period. Due to the low damage they deal it’s difficult for the clones to maintain aggro off you if you consist in attacking. If you stop attaching for a few seconds, they will grab aggro.

The clones have poor health which means realistically they won’t be tanking for any duration of time, however as a tank, they will inherit your avoidance and mitigation in addition to 10% of your health, which means they’ll take a few hits.

The primary use for this is anticipation of easily predicted abilities that require a target. If you summon clones just prior and stop attacking, the mob in question will drop you and then target the clones instead. This can be used to avoid stacking Debuffs on bosses or easily telegraphed nukes. A good example of use is Akali the Butcher in KR, where after being backhanded if you summon the clones they’ll grab aggro and she’ll stop chasing you. Alternatively you can summon them prior when timed right, and she’ll backhand a clone, killing it and leaving you free of the debuff. This can similarly be used to cheese stuff like Umbrics poly in vision of Stormwind, or any of the targeted sanity drains, so long as you time the use to before the ability hits to give your clones a second or two to take aggro.

It also serves as an effective escape given clones will take aggro from mobs as you run. This can be used to drop necrotic stacks and buy time to gain distance when doing so.

Given the clones have a physical presence they can act as bodyblocks for certain mechanics like traps. For example if you see a hunter throwing down a trap and trying to lure you towards it with LoS, clones can be summoned to engage them in melee and one of them will trigger the trap harmlessly. As such they’re also a fine way to keep people in combat a longer to prevent stealth, or going back to Umbric, the clones can be sent to break his frost storm whilst you yourself hide in the initial corridor if you like.

The last niche use is more of an emergency button. Many boss abilities operate on the principle of dividing damage amongst all targets on an aoe, with the idea that not soaking is heavy punishment. If allies are unable to help in time you can use the clones just before it hits to divide the damage amongst the three of you. They’ll die but you’ll only take the divided damage yourself.

I heard vulpera coats and hats are new fashion trend in Alliance.

Hush little fur coat, hush. Let those who Upgraded to mechanization talk.

No goggles miss Tinkspring? Are they in for a tune-up or have you opted for ocular implants in their stead?

Savour them while you can. You are merely culling the weak. It’ll only make our wrath even more terrible and your death even more gruesome, so I suppose I should thank you for that. It’s no fun if they don’t scream in agony…

Only screams I hear is the one of vulpera.

Experimenting with implants, yup. I do miss the goggles though, so one way or the other, they’re coming back.

Oh, look, it talks! And it thinks it’s strong and scary. So cute, the little kitty thinks it is a lion! Aww.
