Mechagnome Appreciation and Celebration Thread ⚙

Regarding regular gnomes, I totally agree there. The males have such a weird voice that I have to turn dialog sound off with them. It doesn’t fit them and never has imo.

Fortunately MG Males just sound like Erazmin. (Same voice actor?)

Yes that’s the best thing about mechagnomes for me, it made males playable; I don’t usually play female characters. The originals have that “whacky” or “hilarious” mad scientist thing going for them, or trying to at least. But mechagnomes are… well… mechagnomes.

I’m not overjoyed about the choice of hair, but that may improve in Shadowlands and I found a haircut I deem acceptable with the cybernetics I chose.

Funny you should mention the mad scientist thing. Log on your Male mechagnome ingame, type /lol and check out the laugh animation :joy:

Will do. I admit I haven’t played my mechagnome more than 8 levels or so into Loch Modan as I’ve been busy with other projects, but I’ve been pleased with the voice and emotes so far.

Oh and I spent a couple hours taming one of those elusive robot bunnies, aka my Rabbot.

Not 100% sure if it’s the same guy, I don’t think so.
I remember the awkward moment I recognised Erazmins voice when I first heard it. The guy who voices Robin in Teen Titans (which my daughter loves) I now cannot unsee Erazmin when hearing him Go ape as Robin.

I think mechagnome voices seem less crazy on males as their voices are reasonably monotone when compared to normal gnomes. Normal gnome males have very pitchy voices whereas mechagnomes simply sound like someone with a bit of helium in their system but otherwise talking normally.

I’ll say it as it is. People don’t like mechagnomes cus they are like most of the other allied races. A scuffed version of what people actually wanted.

Just like people wanted high elves not void elves, people wanted OG full robot mechagnomes from wotlk with mimiron voice actor, not these made up cyborg versions.

My mechagnome has posted in this thread!

Every time Erazmin speaks I am reminded of this episode:

(My daughter was heavily into Teen Titans Go around the time Mechagon was released).

You mean those crappy looking turd brown gnomes with lights drawn on them? Nty.

So what’s the next mechanization mod Gelbin should get? I’m thinking a pair of mechano legs, to leap more majestically into his mech

Apologies. I slacked due to RL. AHEM. Slightly different spin today

Mechagnome Question of the Day: Inspiration

Not everyone is on an RP server like me, but it’s quite typical to have an inspiration in mind for a character. This could be a poem, an altogether different fictional or even historical figure. Sometimes it’s a trope of some sort.

My question is for existent Mechagnomes or those with one planned, what’s your inspiration? What is the driving force behind your char, the concept, and why?

It’s typical for a host to begin. I have many Mechagnomes so I’ll just address Paxmillian here. Full name, Doctor Paxmillian Bingham.

I’m a lecturer IRL and one of the subjects I teach is philosophy, and one of the thinkers I teach about is Thomas Hobbes, a 17th century English philosopher. Hobbes is known for many things, but most prominently is his political work “Leviathan”, and in it he expouses a very interesting view of Human nature; a purely mechanistic view. This is best captured in the introduction to the book where he writes:

" What is the heart but a spring , and the nerves but so many strings, and the joints but so many wheels, giving motion to the whole body?”

This is a powerful quote and really suits what I see as the Mechagnome view of living forms. Additionally Hobbes viewed God as more of an Artificer than a deity, whom used nature and natural laws to craft the world, and the Human practices of Arts and Science are humanitys imitation of this, therefore just like how God gave Life souls according to him, humans grant their creations Life or significance through Scientific pursuit, and it is through these things humans achieve their highest potential significance.

Hence Paxmillian is based upon a loose caricature of a Hobbes, a Gnome with a background in physical sciences (much like Hobbes) who believes he can explain everything according to mechanical laws, even the more esoteric things. His current preoccupation is trying to demystify even the dogmatic mysticism of Pandaren Monkhood, and he is writing a book which aims to provide a fully physical account of what is called Chi and how it operates according to physical principles.

Dear Mechanical chums, who/what is (or would you use for) your inspiration?

Good to see the thread going strong, missed a few back and forths!

Well hell, that got deep. That’s kind of a tough act to follow.

As a mechanic IRL and a lover of all things engineering and machine, Mechagnomes were made for me.

I always liked the lore of regular gnomes but they just weren’t… techy enough for me. But MGs are more or less just gnomes with the Gnomish tinkering ramped up to 11 in my eyes. Which is ace.

Nothing to celebrate about having mechanical imps added as a race, let alone appreciate.

The mechagnome race is a spit to the Alliance’s face, an elaborate move from blizzard that shows how horde biased they are.

Fun Mechagnome Fact of the Day

It’s no secret Mechagnomes have various upgradable modifiers. Most obvious are their ocular implants a majority possess, as well as mechanical limbs. But what else is there? Lets take a look through what the game tells us…

Erazmin as Source

Sub-dermal steel plating. That is to say reinforcing beneath the skin with metal. This is mentioned specifically for fists and feet.

Communication relays that work between Mechagnomes and their pets they modify or mechanical pets, allowing the hunter and pet to communicate directly, akin to telepathy. Erazmin mentions for living creatures it has an unfortunate side effect of causing the more bestial thoughts to be accessible to the hunter which aren’t always pleasant or comprehensible.

Retractable katars that come from within the knees.

Embedded flashlights.

Swappable sensory deprivation nodules, which allow the user to control their own body’s sleep clock and reap the benefits of sleeping, whilst remaining conscious, albeit in a less receptive state.

Retractable prisms to allow the user to manipulate light that comes from within or outside of themselves.

Sound absorptive foot modifiers that make the users footsteps produce no sound.

Retractable daggers referring to as being possible on various parts of the body.

Embedding conductive metals under the skin allow the user to conduct and discharge electricity so long as they have a source for it.

Internal forges within the body.

Internal body pumps which can utilise water within the body to generate more liquid for distribution.

Through HA Questline

Logic Reinforcers which increase the users ability to reason logically greatly. Caution mentioned about it causing user to risk reduction to empathic reasoning.

Artificial hearts which can bring back or give life to dying subjects. This is shown most prominently with Mekkatorque (and a nice reference to Iron Man). It’s unclear if this is possible without specialist parts, as the core of Mechagons death ray was required to make the Spark Reactor which now keeps Mekkatorque alive. Given Mechagnomes show countlessly how well they can create mechanical creatures, it’s plausible they have rudimentary artifical heart tech, but such tech does not work well for umechanised beings. However with access to rare components they can create Spark Reactor like devices which can be used to animate otherwise umechanised creatures.

Dear friends, have you seen something mentioned in game text not covered here? Share it here! Otherwise all other Mechagnome contributions welcome as always.

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” - I think this quote applies to both how the divided player base see Mechagnomes, and to the general Mechagnome outlook!

I’m not playing on an RP server, but I love the idea of these inquisitive, resourceful little fellows who can make use of whatever they find and always seek to solve problems and improve both themselves and the world. Scrap, spare parts and the trash of others is a treasure trove for Mechagnomes who are smart enough to know that anything can have a use (or reuse).

There is no such thing as scrap! There are only resources, and the gap between realising the potential uses for such and lacking the vision to acknowledge them!

I treat this as a Mechagnome Proverb several of my characters refer to.

Hurrah, the forums finally let me choose my Mechagnome character to post on! (This is Ceranity, in case the name wasn’t obvious enough!)

I currently have neither the gold nor the right pieces to make a decent transmog, but fortunately the Mechagon tabard covers the mismatched chest and leg pieces to no one can see my lack of style! That’s a very convenient and gold-saving advantage of having fewer slots for transmog!

Huzzah! Shame the trial of style ended for free mogs…advice is to take advantage of warmode and the WoW buff to get the HA as quickly as possible, as it provides decent mog that works for all MG, and often we mix and match around it too!

If you haven’t joined the MG discord I’d do so, I believe it’s been posted here. I’ll be looking to level up my outstanding MG classes (lock, rogue, DK) and can always pair up when paths sync!

I’d like to mention the fact that there are what appear to be mechagnome endoskeletons walking around in the alternate future. How freaking cool is that? It didn’t even need any more of a Terminator vibe, but just to make sure, they threw that in too.
