Currently there is a HUGE difference between specs (especially melee and ranged)

Makes absolutely 0 sense to me that ranged specs deal more damage than melee. Melee should do considerable more damage to make up for the added danger and being heavily punished for any sort of mechanic that requires movement. That just seems like a basic balancing principle to me but apparently not.
If ranged has an easier time dealing with mechanics, is nowhere near the danger zone of the boss and adds, AND deals more damage on top of it, why would a pug leader bring a melee spec over a ranged one, ever? Even with Melee doing more damage, a pug leader would still be hard pressed to bring one over a ranged on harder keys/weeks. Melee having a marginally quicker interrupt isn’t good enough, Blizzard.

Ranged are also punished by movement, unless you are saying they all stand in one spot and cast non stop?

Posts like this are so myopic and biased.
Ranged generally have to move a lot and actually do mechanics. Melee generally get to stand in range and tunnel and then screech like the world’s ending if they get a debuff twice an evening that causes 5 seconds of downtime.
In my unbiased opinion of course.

Was pretty bad in legion, almost all mechanics had to be dealt with by the ranged players.
Survival hunters would still be forgotten about lol

A decent ranged player will know how to move between GCDs or just use Blink or whatever they got to resume casting. If a melee player has to leave melee they start bleeding DPS instantly because not only can’t they use abilities, but they also can’t auto attack, which is a significant part of total damage for a lot of melee specs.
Of course it’s all situational and dependent on encounter design, but, in general, if a melee has to move they lose more damage than ranged. This is also true for certain boss / add movement - in many cases ranged can just position themselves properly and keep casting while melee have to chase the boss, often resulting in being out of melee range.
Not to mention that some M+ mechanics can just straight up be outranged.
Blizzard really did melee dirty this expansion. The fix isn’t more damage though, it less punishing mechanics, especially in raiding (or you could just punish ranged more if you’re into that).

If your and Dejarous argument are true, then tell me why in the Top 10 DPS specs we got 7 RANGED and 3 MELEE? (see my very first sentences for the source)
Why are the LAST 5 specs all MELEE?
Are these melee players who can do 100% dps all the time all terrible at their rotation?

i was doing sire Danatrius on normal with my guild yesterday i lost so much dps cause i had to move away from stuff and avoiding the blade mechanic it kept hitting me all the time no joke i was playing a mage yesterday.
My guild complained a bit i wasn’t doing enough dps so i had to explain to them why it’s happening as a mage i can’t dish out dmg cause i have to stand to cast and focus Adds more then boss.
We weren’t able to down him though after 10wipes due to not surviving in phase 3.Even with some pugs.
They should really nerf the boss a bit in a sense make longer time between each mechanics happening so i can actually do something useful.

I’m not going to do this for every fight, but you get the idea. Some fights favour certain classes over other. It will vary throughout the raid but there always has to be some classes that do well in most fights and others that just underperform.
Your opening posts implies that ranged don’t suffer any consequences, they do. Of course, melee will always suffer when there is down time and can’t physically hit the boss.

Difference is that ranged has to cast though, while melee doesn’t
there definitely should be some more favourable tuning or utility for melee to make up for that they’re melee compared to how it is right now. ranged are just more useful, and sludgefist mythic is so melee unfriendly that most melee get benched.
but even on other fights, why bring your melee when you can bring a ranged who does the same (or more) damage and does not come with the asterisk of being forced to play in melee range? there is such a thing as too many melee on most fights, there is rarely such a thing as too many ranged. if that were to happen you just place your ranged in melee. it would need to be a fight that is very heavy on movement while simultaneously not impacting melee uptime with said movement.
look at warlocks, boomkins, mages, hunters. they are all very strong AND are ranged. why bring a rogue, a survival hunter, more than one warrior or demon hunter? dks have a solid place because they’re drowning in all their utility but generally speaking melees are not that exciting atm.

Rangeds have a lot more uptimes than melees. Just by looking at the most used mechanic which is the “circle around the boss run out” while the melee have to run the ranged have full uptime. When there is a mechanic that affect the rangeds its most likely affect the melee too.

You are one of the specs that is punished the most for bad uptime since the utility and movement was never really improved. Try to use the conduit for longer duration of steed of glory if you have issues. Especially in fight like Sire Danatrius shared movement skills like warlock portals or shaman totem help greatly.

Im not sure if melees need to deal straight up more dps but there should definetly be more incentives to bring more melees to a raid.
It is kind of unfair that ranged specs are just fundamentally better than melee in raids. Melee classes either need some raid utility, a raid defensive or overtuned dps to see any kind of play while ranged needs none of that.
