Melee/Caster Balance in Phase 4

Long story short: It doesnt even take that much work to make massive improvements to class balance here.
I know these suggestions must be obvious to you as experienced players, stewards and devs of the game, but what I do not know is why despite that you’ve opted to either not do anything or do it in a way that is dysfunctional.

Melee has far more class synergies and far more consumeables useables and little gimmicks (stacking gnomish/battle chickens…) that you can stack on top of each other that skews balance of any semi-well built well organized group of players in their favor.
The right way to create balance is NOT to increase casters dependence on rng and give them a 300% crit multi or to buff their base damage. I ask that you give casters an equal amount of synergies, cross class multipliers and, and this is the most important part for PvE: an equal amount of powerfull of consumeables. Casters need more than one elixir (some have two) that benefits our damage type. Casters need the equivalent of the 60 str from the lvl46 rage potion. How can this be balanced when you are this neglectfull?!

World buffs are a nice gimmick, but with their immense power, it is obvious that you are not able to balance PvE content around them. With them bosses you are not “progressing” on are a joke, without them it can feel unfun to play a particular class/build. It makes loosing them a very frustrating experience, not just personally, but as a team, instead of simply a learning experience.

Casters damage scaling only with spellpower but not with base stats is part of the issue and could easily be adressed further down the road. You can leave it as is, but at least admit that having these issues right now isnt a consequence of it being a complex problem. It is a stupid choice.

You are 100% right. I made an entire post with several suggestions to fix the problem!

Aggrend: Fix Spellcaster Gear Scaling please!

my gaming wallet would not consider buying a large number of elixirs an advantage  (and paladins can literally use all of them)

I dont mean to make them rare or expensive or troublesome to get, quite the opposite. But I think that scaling through consumeables that are lost on death would be a good way to balance for PvE without simultanously creating problems in PvE.

I very much like the felwood type of consumeables, but obviously timers for the plants or whatever took their place in that case would need to be individual rather than global. Felwood stuff is great, usefull, furthers player activity but isnt overrun with bots.

Also every little bit of content that you do yourself and dont outsource to automated systems (like gathering bots) is a good thing.

meh, i think balance is overrated. till like 15y ago, balance did not exist in anygame. and that is what made it interesting. now it does not matter what i pick. we all do the same in different colours. thats why i play sod.

or just reduce the magic resist of the boss like they did when they reduced the armor in gnomergan.

That doesnt read like an argument.

  1. Sure, but what you remember are the outstanding games that had some resemblance of marks of quality, including balance, among the hundreds if not thousands of games that existed at the time. Most of these games were bad, not worth the DVD-box they came in.
  2. Balance is not homogenization. No one is asking for that.
  3. Given the immense amount of data from sod and classic era available to the devs, most problems can be fixed with reasonable amounts of effort and in a fairly short timeframe. To say otherwise is possible, but that would need some damn convincing evidence.

i wonder why is it so hard to balance it we’ve had plenty of expansions where casters and mele are competitive in pve and pvp is not that broken the sod team really havent put any effort in real balancing imo

Here is the thing. I do not think it is hard. I do not think Blizzard says it is hard.
I wish I could ask them “Do you think it is a hard problem to solve? This is a yes/no answer only question.” and force a straight up commited answer.
The issue is that we can’t ever force them to give us straight answers. I know it is not a realistic expectation to get that from PR speak trained cloven-hoofed fork-tongued lizard-people we have close to zero leverage on, but a man can dream now and then.

i feel the frustration and i understand it. but cant we just have one version of WOW that is not uber-balanced. it seems to me a lot of ppl expect this kind of pvp/e:

  • A strikes B with shadowbolt 50dmg
  • B strikes A with holymoly 50dmg
  • A strikes B with flubberbubber 50dmg
  • B strikes A with narfbarf 50dmg

and so on…
