Hey everyone has to start from somewhere, my journey has just begun !

Nowadays, I’ve noticed that players are far more concerned with being validated/recognised than they actually are in roleplaying, as a result, their RP generally suffers because they take themselves too seriously and the game itself too seriously.

I’m not sure where you actually notice this, because from what I see, this is not true.

As another " relic" of this server I have seen its development since day 2 of its existence.

Everything go in waves and spreads over the community to a point things develop to " server culture".
Right now its the hunt for erp ers, tomorrow it can be something else.
A few years ago it was the chasing and exposing the less lore correct guilds and individuals and before that trying to target any bigger guilds because they would " steal" or have some kind of " power" over things.

I do not think this is server or even wow related actually.
Its the internet world as you can find groups and communities everywhere and in them you find people who enjoy pinpointing out issues, flaws or just being plain vicious as they can hid behind computer screens and never face people in reality.

Now when it comes to Argent Dawn just like any other active wow servers you will always have drama, guild fights, trash talk and slander.
We are dealing with people here and when you put a huge amount of people who still can hide behind a screen who with only text to change other peoples opinions and where there is not really any strict rules to follow in the community things starts brewing. You have people from across the world with different rl experience, in game experience and values. shrug her shoulders things happen.
I do not think its worse now then in past years, perhaps only as others have pointed out, the place these battles and conflicts carry on have been moved to servers and only at a few times it leaks out to the AD forum.

When it comes to guilds telling members who they can rp with or not.
That is nothing new and can be for good or bad.
I can only share my own point of view and how I run things as a GM.
If there is a guild who have plenty of members who acts in a way its impossible to have any type of decent rp we take distance.
If there is a guild who s gm have been contacted about a member who acts totally out of line and the gm and admin team decided not to address it in a mature and responsible way. We as a guild take distance.
However each of our members are entitle to rp and have ic and ooc friendships with who ever they wish. But is asked to do so on a personal level and do not include our guild meanwhile.

What have changed over the years is the AD forum.
It have been worse and it have been a lot better.
As others have stated the forum do not represent the rp community accurate because it is dominated by a lot less guilds and individuals then what we have on the server. However their voices are loud.
I personally find it a shame that almost every thread that might bring up interesting topics to discuss turns in to recruitment threads or discussions about a few guilds. We have the separate posts about each guild and its ways and that would in my preference be the place to add these things.

The " hunt" and tracking down people have also increased and it is in my view a bit frightening. There is a lot of players who do not dare to raise an opinion afraid of being tracked down and harassed or even guilds who do not wish to stand up for some values because they will be targeted and looked at with a magnifying glass. And ofc ALL guilds will have flaws or members who screw up at some point. Therefore they are in danger of being exposed and labeled bad for many reasons when it can just be a member and not what the guild itself stands for.

Sure there are no massive rp pvp campaigns the last year but that is also due to the official lore. We are at peace, make less sense to have massive battles.
However there was a time before these was going on as well and I am sure as the official lore and stories changes so will the community activities do.

I do not see less friendliness then the first years only different ways.
There are still server wide events hosted in community feeling and activity and I give credit to the guilds and people who arrange these. salute

What have been a clear trend the last years and perhaps it is " another generation" of role players or it might just be the rp culture who have changed.
Is the need to discuss your role play out of character. People talk about their characters, explain their reasons or think that a massive trp will impress more then actually role playing.
As an old vanilla I find it very mood killing, I do not want to know what your character think or act or have been part of. I want to find out in character as we role play. The result is, you experience less ic because you already know ooc and where is the thrill of getting to know someone ic then.

I for one is proud of all the things that have been achieved on the server and all the wonderful people I have meet during the years.

Odd how that is describing me in real life and some of my characters without even the intention to troll.

What seems to be more the issue that I have noticed since a long time is a certain stubborness. For some topics the public opinion shouldn’t change.

Though within roleplay itself it’s pretty odd to meet stubborn characters on every corner. Sure, people want to keep their characters, but a bit of change in their personality wouldn’t hurt, would it? Your character doesn’t always have to be the same personality forever. And can even see some reasoning behind their -enemies- situation.

That trend I noticed too. If the 5 first glances are super long, I just don’t bother. Because usually these characters are just bland with one motivation only. If they roleplay at all and not just fly around on their mount and check trp’s.

I won’t name anyone publically but I sadly know of one person in your guild too who has done some -questionable- public roleplay on different characters and the one character that person joined you in too. Although I can only say that person does not reflect in any way or shape on your guild and your guild is quite amazing, especially for new roleplayers.

Getting harassed for assosciation is pretty bad idea. Because some random new guy isn’t at fault for someone else doing bad stuff.

When more and more people think the same in the guild though then it becomes an issue. I think the biggest problem is that usually someone intervenes when you don’t respect a certain law / rule. The police in reallife for example. Blizzard seems to not care at all what happens in their game at some certain topics, so it’s all community vs. community. Not much you can do about it at all.

Feel free to contact me at any point if there is an issue with any of my members as I take full responsibility for their actions.
However I will not discuss it more here as that is not what this topic is about.

Nah, that happened on another character and that person did that in the past. Not when they joined your guild. Just slightly afraid that others will not glance over it, which your post was about. My point was that your guild is not responsible for that persons actions and if they do something wrong then you would do something about it, though it might stay in peoples head and they can’t let go of it. Which is a bit of an issue since many guilds aren’t responsible for the weird actions of their members.

Also never do that. If they mishave, then kick them or something but never take responsibility for their actions. You and your guild isn’t at fault for one person acting out.

Yeah first they come for ERP, then for freedom of speech and soon you will wake up in Mega-City One with judge Morsteth knocking down your door (get one [1] unit of grip)

Why do you try to do some shadowy snipe vs the PCU, just log on Horde and /who whatever guild you know, count the numbers and check it yourself

Entirey communities crept out of the Wailing Caverns to do some weird OOC campaign against us and by now all their guilds are dead / on life support

I think going by your statements about “the hunt for ERP” I understand why it pains you so seeing these guilds advertising lol

Hm you paint a very troubling picture here, care to name the guilds and people you are afraid of ?

Ahh the aggressive forum…

sips her coffee and decided to focus on the constructive people playing the game.

There is nothing aggressive in the posts above, excluding your own rather passive aggressive take.

Are you serious your entire long post was a snipe vs the community I play in and nothing besides that, it was in no way constructive and just a lame call out hidden behind “back in my day” / “I am the victim actually”

What mind set do you have honestly ? Let me dab on this community and call them aggressive if they respond to that ? Mad one

Food for thought, why is it usually, around the PCU and releated guilds (tautology), that this “ignoring” or “hatred” or “drama” coils around? I’ve seen guilds having differences, especially between human nobles or Stormwind Guards, those are normal, but never to the point of such deep rooted hostility. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the PCU guilds, inside they function rather normally, though I question the value of spreading out one’s management over a dozen child guilds. But such spanning vendettas, I truly believe it is one of a kind in AD.

Hyperbole for the credit of emphasis, don’t look too deep into it.

A part of it is there presence on the forums. The other part is that they have a heavy presence in game. and as it tends to go the more famous a thing / person is the more people hate it due to jealousy. But there is also the fact the there is kernals of truth to the storys about them that have been blown out of proportion to support there detractors arguments against them.

TL:DR = There famous so there an “easy target” so to speak.

Well it makes sense to spread out. We’re all different guilds with different ideas and concepts.
