There’s some complicated formulas. Or at least complicated to me as i’m maths dyslexic. But in simple terms what is the optimum kill area for xp gain. Mobs slighly higher level, the same or slightly less? I also tried to google it but my fu is weak and I couldnt find the right words to get the answers.
edit:
Ok well tried the old fashioned way and just killed some stuff (ravager wolves in darkshire) on my level 24 prot pally
23 300xp
24 330xp
25 346xp
26 364xp
So higher worth more. But obviously harder to kill. So downtime etc. So maybe not worth hoovering up green quests if they involve a lot of killing and focus on yellow ones.
I’ve never been an efficient quester, and while I’ll roll a belf I have no intention of racing through the portal early June, so in that sense, grain of salt with my feedback and all.
But from personal observation those early years, I remember green quests being very fast. You sort of zoom through, no downtime as you said, and most areas are a mixture anyway of slightly different level quests. It makes leveling feel a bit more breezy, which at times can be very nice.
Ive generaly always taken my time, explored a bit, read quest text, followed up on quest chains, even done grey quests.
But on this toon I want to be as ready as soon as possible to hit outland and yes I know I should have started him yonks ago but like most people I thought Id have a month. So I want to be as efficient as possible and by now some of these quests Ive done 4 or 5 times including when I did them 15 years ago.
So for example Jordan can stick Verigans Fist up his bum cos Im not spending longer to find a group then it takes to get to SK and go through it. And im levelling a prot pally anyway so kinda unusable with a shield.
If possible buy mage boost…
but if you plan on lvling as fast you can without boosts and solo, best is to find area with mobs that you can kill easy (green mobs max yellow), take whatever quests you find, but do not go back to questhub to turn them in until you are done getting exp killing mobs.
boring but it is the most effective, the time you take to go turn in quest for a few measly exp that you can get killing a few mobs is waste of time xp wise.
Green mobs are preferred I think - although it will vary a bit by class.
Generally the big time sink is eating/drinking between pulls. The higher the mob, the more damage you’ll generally take before its dead, so the more you’ll have to stop and heal up. So for example orange mobs may give more XP - but if you have to heal up after pulling 2 of them the additional XP is quickly lost by idle time. Also there is a higher risk of death if you pull an add or just get unlucky. By contrast you can potentially pull 8-10 green mobs before needing to stop (certain classes, especially in TBC, can essentially chain these forever).
Nah not paying for boosts. Im prot so getting groups not so hard. As long as I stick to the popular ones SM/ZF. Yeh I was possibly rested when I tested that. Agree 100% any travel quests are a waste. Right now Ive hoovered up all the 24-26 quests in Redridge and will group up to blitz the lot and hand it all in more or less in one go. Should get me a level maybe two.
