I posted about this subject before, but thought I’d elaborate further on it.
What if the Inscription glyphs worked the following way:
Major: switch a full spec to a different theme/flavor, lore/exp based
Minor: customize a single spell as now
Some examples could be:
MAGES:
-
Major Glyph of Tinkering
Gives the Fire spec a Steam flavor
(Mechagon theme? Engineers should love it)
PRIESTS:
-
Major Glyph of Inquisition
Gives the Shadow spec a Light flavor
(Should appeal to the role players who hate switching to dps because of the nature of the spells) -
Major Glyph of the Cult
Gives the Shadow spec a Cultist flavor
(All hail N’Zoth!)
SHAMANS:
-
Major Glyph of the Tides
Gives the Elemental spec a Water flavor
(Kul Tiran theme. Here like with the mages spells can still be customized to steam or hot water for coherence with damage type)
PALADINS:
-
Major Glyph of the Shadows
Gives the retribution spec a Shadow Knight flavor
WARLOCKS:
- Major Glyph of the Necromancer
I do not play all classes, but I am pretty sure everyone could have at least one different themed variation for each spec, based on either lore or an expansion theme. (What would YOU like?)
Also, rather than making it hard to craft for the Inscription dudes, I think it would make sense if there were a few requirements to meet to enable the character to use such a Glyph, with maybe a tiny quest in the end to explain why such a path is viable.
Locks could be achievements, for example, complete all quests in Tiragarde for Water shaman, craft a certain number of items in Mechagon for the Steam mages…
That would be a lot of work for Blizzard obviously, but nobody says it would all need to be released at the same time. It could go about like the Heritage armor sets, a couple of ‘reskins’ to be released with a major patch.
And/or, there could and should be many more minor glyphs added based on the expansions’ themes.
There’s a lot off people (mostly casuals) that is engaged to the game through mog collection/customization, but I feel this feature would not only appeal us (hehe) as well as role players, but also a lot of people who, while raiding as a main occupation, still care lots about the lore.
Edit 6/6/19: looks like I am not the only one crying for this kind of feature in one shape or another:
