They’re ultimately what sells. Conventionally attractive characters are much more valuable if we look at it purely from a business perspective and the majority of additional playable races added to the game over the years have been very niche and are rarely seen.
The most recent new option to be added are the Earthen which are the third variant of Dwarves.
If they went with something like Ethereals or Naga which do not have a current equivalent to what exists at present, sure - but they probably won’t.
Sure, I’d be fine with that - but a proper overhaul and not just added a few weird hair colours (which again, I rarely see used…) and instead focusing on adding new hairstyles, scars, tattoos and stuff like that.
Bro they are mass producting all sort of stuff around world by minute and people buy it all. My pc chair is made 50 times by different manufacturers under different names and mass producted by all
That’s a very bad comparison because chairs can’t be duplicated infinitely free of charge.
I was clearly talking about digital goods.
If someone was able to wave a wand and summon infinite free chairs that just mass produce themselves and get automatically pumped out of a friggin’ wormhole, and they’re very comfortable and high quality and have sizes fit for anybody? Yeah, you’d have a pretty hard time selling chairs after that, especially if you make a chair with the same general design.
It was good example made for the specifics given as “You don’t sell anything by making the same thing twice.” I gave example of one product that clearly it is
Void Elves are basically just a reskin of Blood Elves and have proven to be very popular with a player population percentage that equals multiple lesser played options.
Sure, they could - but that’s basically what they did with Kul Tirans and I so rarely see them around.
They’ve been doing it for a while. Void Elves and Blood Elves only differ in hairstyles at this point. Dwarves, Dark Iron Dwarves and Earthen share the same structure (though I’ll concede that Earthen have a lot more customisation overall).
The game’s twenty years old at this point and it remains to be seen how much longer it exists for, though I daresay the trend of adding additional races isn’t going to cease.
Next time someone tells me I’m boring because I play human and everybody plays human, I will remember to point out that humans are 12%, 14.5% if we count worgens too, against a 35,6% of elves. Who’s boring and mainstream now huh?
