Hi there,
So I’d call myself an experienced Monk. Played all three specs since MoP and have mained Monk each expansion.
I am struggling massively to keep up with the other healers. Regardless of if I’m trying Fistweaving or Ranged healing, I always end up at the bottom of the HPS.
I don’t know whether I’m doing something wrong, or if my talents are incorrect. I tend to run Upwelling and Rushing Wind as I find that fistweaving doesn’t necessarily get me the numbers in raid.
I’m just wondering if anyone else found themselves in this position and what they did to help?
Thanks
MW is currently in a pretty bad position, the worst healer in all content pretty much. They will probably buff MWs after AWC.

Not true, ignore this person. We are only bad in PvP.
Rising Mist is stronger than Upwelling, but it’s hard to give any in-depth help without logs to look at.
Which is the worst healer in PvE then?
Depends entirely on the fight and what you are judging healers by. If you only look at tank externals then yeah okay MW is bad. If you look at DMG or raw healing done, MW is pretty decent assuming you know how to play it. You can’t really just say “X is the worst healer” because there are so many variables that come into play when discussing something like that. There are some fights where MW is the worst, just like there are fights where rdruid or holy priest is the worst. You even have fights that Disc sucks on like Sun King while MW is the best.
If I had to pick between a good MW and a good disc/shaman, I would always pick the MW.
worth noting that it’s the only class he plays

Overall it is though, no real defensives and pretty bad healing throughput. I ain’t seen any MWs in competitive content!
Sure, they have their niche on a bossfight or 2, but you know yourself MWs need buffs.

Even if that was the case, it literally would not matter for 99% of the playerbase.
Our healing throughput is roughly the same as that of other healers. MW is an underplayed class and the stigma surrounding us is extremely bad, so people just assume we suck even when it’s not true. This leads to fewer players, and the community perception getting worse and worse. We’re literally better than we have been for years, and people act like we’re “the worst healer” and “not viable” for anything, when the opposite has been proven true a hundred times.
Worst healer does not mean not viable. You can perform well if you are a good MW player, your average person would perform worse. The stigma is bad for a reason, you can’t mess with MW as much as you can with other healers, you don’t have as many panic buttons, you revolve around your throughput.
No you are not in a very good spot atm, MWs throughput is quite bad in almost every fight when compared to other healers, Soothing Mist on GCD is the biggest insult the spec has ever gotten. Too bad Cocoon doesn’t save you in PvP, your throughput is also bad there unfortunately.
If you can make MW work, good for you. Doesn’t mean everyone can. I reached 2100+ in BfA as Frost DK and Enhance in 2s, does not mean the specs are fine, had to buy 4 monitors and 7 new mouses.

It’s like I am speaking to a wall at this point… why do so many people who haven’t even stepped foot in Mythic comment about how balanced classes are in Mythic? It’s incredible and I hope the devs never listen to you guys.
MWs throughput is quite bad in almost every fight when compared to other healers
Actually such an incorrect statement.
Don’t worry, we will clear mythic soon enough, starting next week.
Go heal your mythics then, since it hasn’t been this good in years according to you. Hopefully Cocoon can save that one DPS or yourself when you need it.
I’m not sure healing throughput matters if you run out of mana while doing as much healing as other classes that don’t run out of mana. The main complaints I’ve seen from mistweavers that raid is that while their healing is perfectly sufficient they OOM before the fight ends if they need to heal too much.
Mistweaver mana management is fine, it’s just more tricky to “get right” than in BFA. It’s true that shamans don’t run oom, but ending a fight on 70% mana isn’t exactly a good thing.
I personally think I play my class relatively well in raids, and I don’t feel like I have mana problems.
One huge thing that a lot of Mistweavers don’t do, is play Rising Mist correctly. There are fights where this talent accounts for 14-16% of my total healing, and all it requires is DPSing during downtime (which you should be doing anyway). Rising Mist is insanely mana efficient, but people aren’t using it correctly. This means that they are going to struggle with mana.
MW in general is much harder to play than in BFA, and that’s why a lot of people are struggling and underperforming.
Any good guides for healing mythic dungeons wanna get started as Mw
Peak of Serenity and WoWhead both have good guides for beginners. However, if you want a more in-depth guide, go to questionablyepic . com and mouse over “articles”. There will be a link called “Mistweaver Monk Shadowlands FAQ” that leads to a pretty nice guide made by one of the best theorycrafters. Although the FAQ guide doesn’t speak that much about dungeon healing I believe.

We do suck and to perform at an equal level we have to put in way more effort than the likes of priest/shammys just to get equal footing when they’re hardly even trying. In PvP we are awful in everything. PvE we aren’t awful but deserve to be better.
Raids feel good but could use some help in m+ and pvp
Sorry, totally unwarranted I know but… remember to put +20 stam & 30 leech on your cloak, as well as +30 stam on your chest.
That would not help my mana problems one bit
If you have mana problems in normal raids then idk what to say, but… 30 leech is pretty big, and should not be slept on. It’s like 1.5% of my healing on the majority of fights.
If it’s for m+ however, then I do understand. When I first started out in SL on low-ish keys, mana was tight too. This has more to do with the fact that people stand in A LOT of bad things. The higher key level I go, the easier it is on my mana because people generally don’t stand in bad stuff. You also can’t just go into a key and expect vivify spamming to work. You gotta put your renewing mists out and extend them with rising mist, and then your vivify suddenly becomes a lot stronger.
Also, prideful makes it a lot easier.
