My reasons for cancelling my subscription

Haven’t posted in a while and wasn’t planning on it, but a recent decision made me change my mind:

So yeah. Today I canceled my sub. I can still play for a bit, but as things are looking at the moment; I will not be.

As for my reasons, I wanted to explain them so hopefully Blizzard can use that information to their benefit. Feel free to discuss my points, although I will not be reading or reacting to any of them.

First reason: The Shadowlands overal theme. I’m not a fan. Simple as that. I like more ‘real’ places and not edgy fantasy wonderlands. I especially hate every- and anything to do with Torghast and the Maw aesthetic: To me it’s depressing and annoying.

Second reason: As a ‘hardcore player who enjoys casual content’, I just don’t feel valued as a customer in this expansion. Even BfA, which had bad content, still gave me the feeling of being valued and being able to significantly advance my character, doing the content I love doing. No such thing in Shadowlands.

Third reason: There isn’t much that I enjoy doing and what IS there, is simply not rewarding enough. Pretty straight forward.

Fourth reason: Even for me, someone who doesn’t usually mind it, this expansion really is just too damn full of timegating.

Fifth reason: The Maw and Torghast. Yeah. These 2 systems make me HATE this game. I HATE those places. And I’m afraid that they’re only going to be doing more and more with them in upcoming patches. Well; no thanks.

Sixth reason: Since I finished the covenant story, I just feel ‘done’. Sure there’s more I could do, of course, but the thing is; none of it feels worth my time.
I could level alts and do the other covenant storylines (I already have 1 max lvl alt who’s also finished their covenant campaign), but frankly; I just don’t care enough (see reason 1). And because of reason 3, I just don’t feel it’s worth to keep playing like I have.

In short; this, to me, feels like an expansion where I need to take an extended break and then return when the final patch releases. It will give me stuff to do and prepare for the next expansion, which will hopefully be a theme more to my liking.

Now; there ARE ways that will entice me to come back sooner and that’s why I made this thread. Hopefully Blizzard is paying attention and stops only catering this game to mythic+ runners and raiders. That’d be nice.

Ps; no you can’t have my gold because I WILL return to the game. I just don’t know when.

Could i just have it now? To keep it safe, maybe invest till u dont need them and so on, you know.

But for real, when u pretty much hate everything in game and feels like u have nothing to do and even what you do makes no sense to you, taking a break is best thing possible.

Good luck.

Sucks that you aren’t enjoying it - a break sounds like a good idea, rather than sticking through things you don’t find fun. I hope you find something else to play that you enjoy, and we’ll see you when you get back

I totally understand where you’re coming from. You could try out other stuff this game has to offer, but if it’s not your thing then I guess shadowlands has very little to offer.

I too am not a big fan of torghast and the maw, they feel like chores.

Get this 100%. With the end of the covenant story and the end of the bolvar quests it does feel like a lot less to do now and what is left isn’t really worth bothering with outside the renown weeklies and maybe the maw weeklies if I can be bothered and torghast for soul ash.

If this expansion isn’t for you then it’s not for you and is only sensible to take a break.

I’m still playing as I do enjoy SL and even torghast is kind of growing on me (yeah put those pitchforks away people) but I will probably be logging in less, certainly not daily like I used to.

You won’t get any form of balance without

A: Making every class and spec do the exact same damage and healing (boring)

B: Giving all classes specs all the exact same abilities (homogenization, boring)

What people are looking for is PvP to be fun, not super well balanced. All the times competitive PvP was extremely popular was not because every class and spec was super balanced - but it was fun to play.

Again, balance doesn’t inherently make the game fun or enjoyable, in-fact I’d argue it’s the complete opposite.

nerfs for warr, mage, ww, ret, convoke, h paladin

I think the only thing that really needs toning down honestly is the classes that have the ability to global you from 100% to 0 after popping out of stealth for less than 2 seconds.

So I will agree Fire mage nerfs, and Convoke. Maybe reduce the damage reduction of Warrior’s defensive stance, and tone down WW slightly (mostly the first of fury slow imo). But in general I think PvP is the most fun it’s been in a very long time.

Nothing worse than dampening arena games. And I much prefer the faster gameplay.

if u dont want dampening dont add healers who cant go oom

So the game just becomes a mana fight? That’s just as boring. Plus every healer goes OOM currently, even Resto Shamans if there’s enough pressure going out.

We already have a pretty big shortage in Healers in BGs and arena, and they reduced mana regeneration in PvP combat by like 50% (?)

You need to understand the repercussions of what you’re actually asking for.

Oh, and what you’re asking for happened at the beginning of Cataclysm, and healers were quitting left right and center because players would literally go OOM in the first 2minutes because spells costed so much mana. It was tragic. Even I stopped playing for a few months until they moderately fixed it.

Have you ever succed getting their gold?
