My take on the 58 boost (41yo oldschool wow player)

Then i honostly do not know if you really think what you are saying or if you are a good troll

If I was a troll I’ll be asking for stuff like dungeon finder and raid finder

Yeah exactly the kinds of people who will wreck the game with their retail nonsense, demanding shortcuts and boosts and convenience every step of the way because they’re used to having everything instantly handed to them on a plate in retail for zero effort, and will demand the same in TBC.

And then guess what? They’ll rush through the game, maybe do a couple of raids, get bored, and go back to retail, just like all the ‘tourists’ did in Classic.

And here are people on this thread and others defending Blizzard’s desire to cater for these fly-by-night people who will be gone from the game in four months or less - but they’ll wreck our game in the process, like consuming locusts.

Because most people here are not english native speaker and thus they cannot understand even if you explain

or Classic players that are already bored of the 1-60 levelling and have only patience to do 60-70 on their main and enjoy TBC while boosting their alt to 58

who knows

I’m sorry, but either you are trolling, or just being the biggest moron i have ever stumbled upon. Why are you even playing the game? Leveling is too slow and boring? How about raiding/endgame pve? You getting fed loot and carried in a premade? GM/lootcouncil? Because if not, then gearing up is slow too. One or two items a week. Are you farming mats for consumes? Are you helping guildies with stuff? Or are you like the other morons paying to NOT play by buying gold for real money, and boosting to 60. Then gdkp ofc, to bis your way to the top? I don’t see why you play it really. It is obviously too slow paced for you. Cuz you fast man, real fast…

native english speakers. Apparently you aren’t a native english speaker, too.

That’s what they have just done in BlizzCon. No fresh TBC and paid character boosts.

There is a good, honest and ethical way to make money and then there is a greedy, scummy way of making money. Blizzard is already doing billions of dollars of annual revenue and it is their long-standing audience that made them what they are. They became a video gaming giant from a small indie studio when there were no paid boosts, no tokens and no cash shop.

That’s ridicilous. Classic was probably the only great success Blizzard has managed to produce in the last decade, only by listening to its own audience, even if they insisted for so long not to do it. And they made so much money out of classic already, and also managed to fix their falling reputation with classic.
Even today, 4,5 months into the last patch before the expansion, most servers have an incredible amount of active players.

The game will certainly not die if they don’t implement paid character boosts. But it will start dying if they go the retail way and cater to instant gratification and paid services.

I remember the day SWTOR released. There was 2 million players online the first day, it was a mega colossal event worldwide, it was expected to be the “wow killer”, there were so many players around that I couldn’t even see the ground because of player bodies for a good few hours, let alone the insane amounts of lag and constant crashes/ques.
Now they “barely manage to survive” thanks to the cash shop. Wow, what an amazing achievement, that cash shop sounds like an idea of a genius!

Same as RIFT
Rift was such a good game before they started catering to the whales

Now it’s a shell of its former self

I’ve heard this term ‘whales’ a couple of times now. What does it mean?

@Lorran: “Whales” refer to people who spend a lot of money on a specific game.

Thank you.

It’s just not Classic-like. Pay for convenience/endgame rush mindset is what ruined the genre in the first place. Classic was us going back in time, playing an MMORPG where the journey mattered more than the destination. This boost has NO place in classic. TBC begins at level 1, not 58.

And that’s ignoring the potentially devastating concequences the boost will have for botting/RMT. If you thought the Classic botting was bad then you’ve seen NOTHING compared to what we will see in TBC.

It also sets a terrible precedent. If “we” are allowing boosts then what’s next? You and I know damn well that ActiBlizz aren’t stopping there. This is merely them testing the waters, further monetisation will come, likely in the form of WoW tokens or unlimited boosts.

All-in-all, the boost is nothing a greedy cashgrab from ActiBlizz, under the guise of it allowing people “catch up with your buddies!”, despite the fact that people have had literally 2 years to level for TBC. ActiBlizz don’t see Classic as a game, but as a product to be milked for money.

EDIT: Also, regarding your “boosting is already in the game, therefore it’s ok if Blizzard does it too” sentiment, what the hell makes it ok for Blizzard to further exacerbate this problem then?? Why did they not just address mage boosting from the moment it became a thing? It’s obviously an exploit and an unintended form of “gameplay”. I don’t know why you people have such a defeatist mentality like this.

Maybe for ONCE you should hold the multi-billion dollar megacorp accountable for the problems their own (lack of) action created.

I agree your all points. But i didnt say that. Hell, of course it is NOT ok.

But people are strange. They ignore all botting/boosting/rmt crap atm. And they talk about 58 boost or dualspec or barbershop or gender change etc etc nonstop, everyday, several topics…

Those are secondary. This game is dying because of 0 service aka bot invasion.

Ironic.

The way i see it, what does it matter.

Anybody who has played classic has seen the rampant boosts for gold, 1 to 60 in a week while they’re afk at the instance start. All the boost does is cuts out the middle man.

Personally i wont use it, i already have a set up of characters going into tbc but others dont for various reasons, the way i see it is if they want to spend money on potentially an extra person staying on a realm i’m playing on, then good.

Its not even like they’re getting an easy time, going into hellfire as a 58 you’re going to get your behind kicked on the regular.

Our game? You suddenly have some ownwership on the game?
Buy out Blizzard stocks and only then you can change the direction your way and call it “our” game. If you cant, you are just a customer who like or dislike the product. Nothing else.
Also, you put a lot of stereotypes about retail players here. Yes, there are tourists who will come and leave, so where is the problem?
I play both, classic and retail since day one and I like them both. I also wont buy a boost since I dont need one, but I dont judge others who will buy it, they have their reasons and I respect that. You obviously cant, it is your way or highway, right?

And what exactly true Classic players do in game rn? Raidlog once a week stacking world buffs? WoW

Fine, lets reset everyone to level 1 then? Because if you start playing TBC since day 1 you will be several weeks behind just because you didn´t play Classic.

That is correct. I’ve played 6-7 mmo’s and Swtor is one of them since the early start, not at launch but when it was still sub based. If it would not been for the Cartel Market (cash shop for those who don’t know) the game might have been gone by now. Kinda hillarious that you can report the same bug for years, nothing happens, then there is a tiny bug in CM. It gets fixed in a quick hotfix or if a patch is close.

So again, you are correct. Now, did it make the game and economy any better? Not really. I can’t imagine for any fresh player installing it, sure the game is free and able to play the stories but when it comes to buying things on GTN (AH like WoW), like trying to boost your professions with all the new meta yellow Augments for your pve and/pr pvp needs etc, I hope he took the chance buying credits when things cost multiple millions atleast.

Yes the game is still alive, granted but why is the game dying? And please don’t get me started it’s not. A game that went from sub based → free2play → merge servers to what I have heared (rumor tho) merging us and eu servers.
(Maybe something amazing will happen with their 10 years anniversary)

Listened to a recent podcast with Snave, I take it you know who that guy is (Brit playing male operative) and you could easily notice his concerns. Like trying to do w/e they can, collecting breadcrumbs with what’s left of the population.

During prime time yes you can get some thing done fine but I stand by my words. Seeing it with my own eyes. So, they got CM, so why are people not playing the game? Cause it’s too old now?

No, it’s because the game itself. The system, economy, the endless toxic bs in both solo and group ranked, people stopped caring play by the objectives looong ago in WZ’s and just farm Epeen dps. Then make a Youtube video “look my X class with Y spec did Z million dmg” pfff. Still lost the game cause only number famring.

Swtor is nothing more then a mostly single player game. Stories are amazing but once you’ve done them all, well you get my point. I know another game that has this Cash Shop and feels more like a single player game then a real Mmo. It’s refered to as Retail.

So let me ask you, do you prefer an mmo with a tiny playerbase but super hardcore only playing for Arenas that complains about many things and able to buy their things with opening their wallets for upgrades or when switching mains after a patch when X class or Y spec gets trashed OR do you prefer the opposit?

Sorry that was a long babble but yes I do agree with you there.

Or just make no-boost no-transfer fresh servers. People who want to continue on current servers can do so as they please.

The point I was trying to make, and no SWTOR is not welcoming to new players, but it’s there as a hub for the ultimate fans who is absolutely passionate about Star Wars.
Upheld by the CM. Without it, SWTOR would have been gone a long time ago and the fans wouldn’t have Star Wars Hub anymore.

I’m not saying it is good or bad. I enjoy playing it from time to time mostly for it’s PvP.
