And did those “so many people” remain today? I have seen enough threads about empty servers on Classic forum section…
Then why people been playing CSGO DOTA and LOL for decades? What can those do that WOW can’t?
(as a software engineer)
TechLead is that you?
To be fair CS itself was pretty dead before CSGO released. 1.6 was in decline and CS:S never took off properly always being branded as the “noob version”. Valve sure did something right with CSGO and it’s been an impressive revival
yes. Dont know about dead servers. If I log in on classic I still have queue times and cities are full of people. blizzard said it themself. they did not expect classic to keep beeing that strong
Agile methodology is not equal to quickly implementing what a player wants. They may have agile methodologies in place while their tasks may not revolve anywhere players desires of feedback. The leaked posts from their internal forum does show that they pay way more attention to metrics than to player comments.
As a software engineer you would know that PM or customer often comes with stupid or broken ideas and it requires some brainstorming to sort things out.
Titanforging was a somewhat controversial system yet it didn’t crash the game for nearly two expansions it was in. Corruption was a one patch thing and as a such experiment it’s essential it happens as at some point it will lead to finding better systems and designs. They could this or that but still it’s good that they are trying. In Legion Xforge, AP and legendary drop made LFR and overall old raid tiers on farm (even HC dungeon daily) making it easier for mog farmers and LFR players to complete those. In BfA Xforge was nerfed, no other incentive and the raid tiers died really quickly (+ overabundance of gear).
In Shadowlands they are taking a completely different approach and we will see how that will pan out. There will be no flashy corrupted gear or quick gearing, just your weekly vault for the major upgrade source (some worry it may be to perfect).
Give me some data that there has never been a decline in their player numbers? That they have been constantly growing since their launch?
I’m sure there were declines in their playerbase, but certainly not for 10 years straight…
You can find a reply to a similar comment a little bit above yours and you could also try to be less arrogant ![]()
They grab money and do it fine.
as someone who played professional cs 1.6 in the eps I call bullsh*t on what you are saying. cs 1.6 was so strong that nobody wanted to switch over to cs:go. Valve needed to force the top teams to go over with a massive prizepool for there first three tournaments. even to this day cs 1.6 has a good playerbase
Having seen any actual point related to SWE btw (as a software engineer myself)
yea dud, wanna talk about about design patterns on a wow forum? I talked about our way of working so people could understand it and relate to it.
Arrogant? I just find your approach rather cringe. “as a software engineer I want Blizzard to implement my changes bla bla bla”. You just wrote a lot of words trying to up-value them by using some “higher position”. If you don’t like WoW go work at Amazon on New World or go work on Ashes of Creation (not to mention those 100 companies made by ex-Blizzard employees in the recent “month”).
There is no point in wasting time posting about WoW. They have their ways and nothing really changes. 20% feedback in, 80% feedback out. Welcome to BfA and Shadowlands. From engineering standpoint they have a quite bleeding edge DX12 implementation with first signs of ray tracing plus they do implement a lot of in game systems and content. Wherever it’s liked by players is separate from engineers work.
Completely not true, you are being ignorant, that is not what I said. Have you read my comment regarding user research or you just “bla bla bla” on the forums?
why are you here then?
If they are so bad at “user research” or translating feedback into implementation why the game still exists and is so successful? Not saying they are making a good job at player satisfaction but game dev is not 100% listening to forum posters. Not to mention player feedback that they don’t like a system doesn’t tell what a good system would be.
“we don’t like XForge” → nerf Xforg → we still not like it → kiss/curse Crucible gear → more pls → Corruption system → To RNG and power Blizz → No XForge, No corruption, much less gear in Shadowlands.
Seems like they are working on it.
All I saw was another complaint post - blizzard has money but don’t use it well. IDK what you being SWE has anything to do with it. I assume you watch a lot of TechLead, him being a millionaire has as little value to the subject as what you presented here, IMHO.
Well…I for one am having fun and enjoying
Yea. So? Are we supposed to only post pictures with our transmogs on these forums?
