Mythic+ Affix Change Incoming - 30 October

With scheduled weekly maintenance (on October 30 in this region), we will update the Challenger’s Peril affix.

  • Challenger’s Peril now adds an additional 90 seconds to the timer of Mythic Keystones in addition to the 15 second death penalty.

We wish for Challenger’s Peril to emphasize precise play and place a greater risk on players’ decisions as they progress through higher Keystone levels. With this goal in mind, we want to give players a bit more breathing room for these decisions by adding a bonus to Challenger’s Peril, while maintaining the penalty aspect of the affix.

No, just remove it.
Its about as bad as necrotic was. It only incentivizes disbanding keys on the slightest mishap.

The timer should never be the main enemy in m+, but rather the dungeon itself.
I much preferred the Sanguine Depths like design, where you had a lot of time, but the dungeon had a lot of difficult parts and some pass/fail mechanics.

Hmmmm, how long before you hit this change with the nurf bat to? $10 says next week it gets changed o_0

But a move in the right direction

Useless “Fix” as usual

I see what you’re thinking:
“Hey players, you may now wipe once/ die 6 times and not feel as bad about it”.
The problem is, this is pretty much a hidden buff that won’t have the intended mental effect.

just remove this dirty affix, people rather play necotic and sanguin than this

The right thing to do is just remove it. This alongside spec balancing and the jump to 12 & up are contributing to a pretty toxic M+ season. These are all anti fun and are putting people off.

Let M+ scale naturally from 12, remove the additional death timer, & do a better job of balancing classes, distributing useful group abilities and damage profiles so people don’t all need to play the same meta classes to get a group invite.

This will go someway in retaining M+ players who are currently being gatekept out of the content they enjoy, getting frustrated and logging off after sitting in M+ group finder for hours

Does this mean untimed keys TODAY or since the start of the season will be counted as timed after the reset?

IE, Missed timer @ Dawn+13 today by 15 seconds. Is this going to be counted as timed on Wednesday?

Im just adding my voice to echo those above me, its a step in the right direction but the timer shouldnt be enemy number 1 it should be the dungeon itself imo

Delve 11 is calling your name, along with M+0 where you have no timer.

This is like saying “The kick between the legs now comes with an ice pack.”

Nice one Blizz.

Can you just shift myth track to 9s instead.

Ok so TL:DR. +7s and above just gets extra 90 sec on timer. Did I understood that correctly?

REMOVE IT FFS like wake up no one likes it so remove it

As usual, too slow to react to your community. People are asking for this since week 2. It takes you 2 months to not make a decision and try the lazy approach.

Time to review your priorities, I hope that making mount mania or Fashion frenzy were not the activities that blocked you to balance your game, it would be a shame…

Or you could just delete the damn thing. It was a terrible affix to begin with. You could also address the poor design choice of having these massive spikes in difficulty on certain key levels, +7, +10 and+12.
The current scaling is awful. I can go from facerolling my way through a +9 key with 4-5 minutes left, to barely timing or depleting a +10.

Looking at cutoffs for the different levels, and you see dramatic falloff.

  • Only 30% have timed all +7 keys. The 70% who can’t, are better off doing Delves instead.
  • 20% of players have timed all +9 keys, only 10% have done the same on +10. That’s a 50% falloff.
  • 4,5% have done all +11 on time, and only 0,6% have done all +12. So that’s almost a 90% drop…

Do you think it’s good design to create a giant wall at +10, which 90% of the M+ playerbase can’t get past?

This feels like an admission that the Challenger’s Peril affix is a problem, this is a positive, admitting there’s a problem is the first step on the way to resolving it.

Now we’ve made this first step, perhaps we can move into the “resolution” phase and just remove the affix entirely.
