Nameplate distance

I just want to see the official blizz post about nameplate distance. Was the macro, changing it up to 100 yards an abuse? Will it be ever possible to change nameplate distance more than 20 yards?

Yeah it was an exploit, the function is marked as a protected function - meaning only blizzard code can call it. The macro was exploiting a bug where using scientific notation would bypass it’s protected status.

Blizzard, could we have extended nameplate distance for PvE mobs but keep it restricted for PvP, I’m assuming the reasoning behind the limited namepate distance is for world PvP

This is totally game changing thing for hunters. I don’t mean pvp or pve. The whole hunters gameplay suffers so hard. So i need the official bluepost about it.

I believe the reason they broke the script is because in Vanilla they had this distance. I agree it is a royal pain the posterior as a hunter.

Thought it was a bug on my end… glad it’s working as intended. Wish it was a little higher but yeah, probably will get used to it soon enough.

So you’re telling me that those nameplates appearing from like 5 steps away are blizzlike?

Not complaining myself, but my gf (who’s a WoW noob) has died a LOT due to simply not being able to see that she’s running into 5 mobs (even with names on).

It’s all part of the glorious death trap that is Classic.

This is not another whine thread, just need to know the official blizzard state about this.

Me as well. Imo current nameplates appear too close, but I can’t say for sure. Back in the day I never would’ve noticed such a thing, being 15 and all that, but today it’s kinda annoying when a mob jumps me as soon as its nameplate pops.

I know for a fact that the range is bigger on later expansions, but I don’t know when it got changed.

Speaking of nameplates and aggro, I’ve noticed that often times hostile mobs my level do not aggro me until I’ve almost ran into them (so, the contrary of the above issue). Which is a bad thing when I’m actually trying to make big pulls.

If hostile mobs my level could, like, consistently aggro me from 15 yards and nameplates could appear from 25 yards, that would be great.

PS - also, the delay when looting mobs, chests, veins, herbs, anything is getting increasingly annoying. This is not launch day, so we know it’s not lag anymore.

To fix this you can use “Faster loot” addon

Wait, how can an addon change something like that? O_o

Interface => Names => Show enemy names, this should help!

Did they fix the script yet? Hopefully me getting banned for speaking on it wasn’t in vain.

lol good one.

Yeah, I showed this option to my gf, but she still bumps into mobs quite often…

Blizzard, please remove nameplates as a whole for enemy players(PvP)

Even the small ones.

name plates are pretty much useless as they are now. Is there at least an addon that increases the size of the nameplates or gives them a more distinct background(like a black bordering)

They are still useful for tanks. For ranged classes yeah, useless.

If it was me I’d restrict them so they wouldn’t be visible unless in line of sight and in combat with them.

Detecting enemies behind walls by pushing a key never seemed fair to me, and if you as a player can’t see a mob in the distance you shouldn’t have a shiny sign on top of it to highlight its position.
