Necromancers in the Horde

So my newest Mag’har Orc is a Necromancer, I’ve thought up a back-story for her and I’m quite happy with it, but I have a question about the role of a Necromancer within the Horde. With Sylvanus as the Warchief now and her aims to give her people a future one would think that Necromancers would be maybe not “welcome” but allowed. There is also of course the Death Knights who dabble with their own Necromancy raising ghouls and monsters to fight for them. What do you guys think? Should she wear her profession with pride or hide her true vocation behind the usual “I’m a Mage” excuse?

I actually opened a thread discussing Sylvanas & Necromancers. I think the discussion might be of interest to you

To make a long story short, Sylvanas’s relationship with Necromancers is complicated.

While she uses Necromancy herself and through her Val’kyrs, even allowing Death Knights to use their powers(or tolerates them?), the Forsaken have never had any Necromancer of note despite the extreme usefulness a guild or cult or Necromancers would’ve been for the Forsaken.

We do not know why they do not train or recruit Necromancers beyond speculation, but we can be pretty certain there is some very-heavy push back/ban on Necromancers based on their absence beneath Sylvanas, and so it’s likely any Necromancers would have to keep their practice a secret when traveling through lands owned by Sylvanas.

That was an interesting read, thank you

It kinda boils down into what kind of RP you want to have with that character. Being an open dark caster provokes most characters around you, causing conflict which can be great fun.

At the other end lies the undercover version, which allows you to rp as “normal” member of the horde. Quite many horde guilds are like: we dont recruit ic or ooc warlocks, death knights or other fiends. On the other hand my so far best rp experience has been when roleplaying a good guy closet warlock in a do gooder guild.

When you think of it necromancers would not be that bad among the Horde as the more tribal races dont have law system as other races. Goblins are chaotic race who are not known by their ethicality. Forsaken and belves are quite pragmatic, so they most likely do not mind. Tauren might be the most hostile race towards necromancy due to their strong bounds to the nature. Yet they were the most welcoming race to the forsaken in the horde.

Also I would note that all the savage races of the Horde commune with their ancestors. Their ancestors being dead spirits, it is fair to argue that the line between shamanism and necromancy is rather dim.

I’m sure the Blood Elves hate undead and necromancers like no other…
But yeah, the Taurens are problematic too in this case - welcoming the Forsaken out of pity is one thing, but a “living” necromancer? While they don’t have the first hand experience of the Scourge like the High Elves/Blood Elves, the stories are enough (and ran in a few during the Wars but Kalimdor never experienced the full might of the Scourge like Silvermoon or the Eastern Kingdoms)
The Nightborne… I think they are open minded/arrogant enough to study or tolerate all types of magic

Blood elves were sacked and almost wiped by the Scourge that is true. But they were introduced to the Horde by Forsaken at first and they have worked quite a lot with them in last years. I’d imagine that their view of necromancy is that it is disgusting. Yet belfs are quite pragmatic these days so I don’t think that they mind if it used in combat against the Alliance for example.

Though I imagine that it would be one thing for Sin’dorei to accept fighting alongside Necromancers and actually allowing them to teach and practice within Silvermoon. Much like Night Elves allowed mages of the Alliance in their lands while Highborn would still be prosecuted.
