Need or Greed on BoE’s in runs with strangers/pugroup ?
Depends. Communicate with your group and establish how you’re going to roll at the start of your dungeon run.
If I need it, I Need it. If I am just greedy, I Greed it. If I am not interested i Pass.
And if no deal is made ?
Atleast blue’s we’re talking here right?
If I know its worth money then I make sure no one has pressed greed then tell people to press need. If someone has pressed greed I wait until everyone else has rolled then follow based on that.
What do you mean by this, exactly?
If you asked them “do we need or greed” and none of them replied, or what?
If so, follow the lead of the first roller. If someone greeds, you should greed. If someone needs (and they don’t look like they need the item // haven’t explicitly said that they need it) then need it as well.
It’s all about reading the room.
Blockquote
Empire in post 2 suggested making deals. I emphasized if no deal made.
This is my experience since 2 month.
For BoE green/blue : All greeds. The only exception is “Of […]” (for example, “Of Frozen Wrath” green gear) you can need it but ask the chat before and you should wear it instantly so you can not resell it. This apply to high level, at low level while leveling, you can basicly need green or blue BoE if you need it without talking about that. You should not “need” BoE for dez, this a bad behavior.
For BoE Epics, Bags : All needs. I will not waste my time with ninja looter so all needs.
For orbs in strat live : All greeds. If someone ninja by a “need”, just kick him and replace him, it’s not a big deal. If you want to be sure no one ninja, read the chat to see what all guys do. If nobody do anything, call for “All needs” so nobody will be rekt.
For openable chest : All roll. Even if the chest is locked and you have a Rogue in group, you roll.
For BoE green chest : All greeds, even if you have a Rogue in group.
For patterns : here’s where the drama start … i don’t know. Some guys like me will said “Only the people who have the profession and doesn’t have the pattern should need and learn the recipe instantly otherwise it’s a ninja loot”, some guys will said “All needs so we can resell it”. See the Robe Of Archmage Pattern, if it drop in LBRS, what you will do ? I can guarantee most people in Classic will try to ninja it via a “Need” if someone put a “Greed”, even if they are not tailor and not a Mage, because they want the free 100 gold that is worth.
It depends. If it is an item that is worth alot of gold, then I’ll tell all to need - unless it is Bis for someone in my group. Then I’d happily pass on it.
What I experience mostly in classic (and also in vanilla).
BoE Green/blue: Need when its an upgrade
BoE Epic: Everyone needs unless you don’t care/want to be nice.
Chests: Roll, no matter if its locked or not (and… I main a Rogue but we’re not all greedy douchenozzles :p)
That’s the basic attitude in the groups I attend, if its different most people would tell before the start.
Edit:
Patterns/Recipe: don’t roll right away. Since usually a discussion happens if it is one of the more rare ones. I think if someone has the profession it should go to them but most people want the gold.
Edit 2: Sorry Eldrai I wanted to reply to the OP. Pressed wrong button.
For blue or epic BoE, all need. Generally people’d need the gold more than someone’d need the stats on the item.
On pservers it was so simple when every needed, but that standard seems to not have followed onto classic, yet. Saves a lot of drama, and you won’t have idiots needing on items that they don’t actually need. A druid needing on Cobalt Crusher is a prime example that I’ve unfortunetly experienced.
Whats the difference if all people Greed or all people Need on a BoE ?!
Whoever Needs on a BoE where at least 2 other Greed, it’s a Ninja. We all need gold, but common sense is above gold.
Actually I really hate this line “I Need because I need gold”. THE ONLY WAY you should Need is when you really need that item ( aka an upgrade or for a profession ). That’s it. For everything else is Greed.
For people who Need ( exception for when the rules are made in favor, before entering the dungon/raid ) because they …need gold, please keep doing so. This is Classic and your actions echo an “eternity” on your server. I have a solid list of around 10 or more Ninjas from Skullflame which I’ll soon post it on the Discord server channel.
Play fair and with common sense people. Stop Ninja items with the pretext of “…but I need gold”.
It depends.
Rare BoE’s? Need if you need, otherwise Greed.
Epic BoE’s? Usually all Need(Greed), but if someone actually needs it (mostly in guildruns, but has happened with PuG’s as well) then I’m not beyond letting them actually have it.
I’ve passed on both Skullflame Shield and Myrmidon’s Signet for two different tanks I didn’t know, as well has various epic BoE tailoring recipies for various tailorers.
Big love for that. This is the kind of attitude people should have.
I’m happy to pass on anything I don’t need as long as I’m confident the needer will actually equip/learn it.
I seem to recall there was/is a system on live where if you need on anything BoE [in a dungeon group], it binds to you anyway. Would not mind for Classic.
Should always be all need unless they dont want
if you say roll greed, you’re setting your group up for a ninja loot.
if you dont care about the item or the gold from selling it doesn’t matter but always tell group to need roll rare boes, unless its a special thing that 1 person needed b4 you did the dungeon etc in which case everyone just passes etc
always roll need unless you either dont care at all or have established something for the boe b4hand
Wait is the question… Need or Greed for an item you plan to sell?
That’s the very definition of a Greed roll to me.
I’m surprised this even needs discussion.
I will always need on rare BOEs.
Even if others call me ninja or accidentally greed.
If I need and everybody else greeds, I’ll happily reroll the item with manual rolls.
If everybody needs, it’s all good.
If half the party greeds and the other half needs and I don’t win it, I ask for the winner to let the others roll for it.
I also usually do point out once a rare boe drops that I’ll be pressing need because everybody needs money, and with no intent to ninja the item, but full intent to roll on it.
The reason for all need is so noone can steal it for like gold… if all greed means someone can choose need and steal the item, that cant happen if all press need
Shouldn’t even be a topic of discussion. If it’s an item that is an upgrade for your class/spec - NEED. If it’s not - GREED. Class/spec upgrades come before people’s selfish greed for gold.
Same goes for patterns, if you have that profession and you intend to learn it immediately - NEED. If you don’t, GREED, don’t be an ahole.
