New action bars selectively excluding options

I just installed Dominos again.

I’m clearly not the first:

I give up with the new action bars

After defending and fanboying the new ui for two weeks, i gave up with it and got the more reliable action bar addon “dominos”. The thing is, default action bars won’t show spell activasion glow, i don’t know how to get it work. It’s insane how blizzard does worse action bars then some random addon author. They should have hired the guy tulla to manage their action bars. Bartender is also nice but it does so much more than i want, dominos is just simple default replacement.

This is gonna be a bit of a rant/QQ thread, so if that’s not for you, you can go.

Let’s talk about the new action bars and how much they suck, here we go:

1. Old action bars had support for displays of any size. They would reach to the edge if large enough and, if too large, would shrink to fit on the bottom of the screen. The new ones just overlap each other, even at 4:3. Woe be you if you have a 3:2 laptop which, yes, do exist. And are made by Microsoft.
2. I can’t hide action bar one, and dragon flying is not considered a vehicle. Why? Why must I see action bar one? Maybe I don’t want to see action bar one - maybe I don’t need to see my bars because I already know the binds? And this isn’t some crazy unusual thing - pretty much every player who has made it to end-game know their binds - and if they do not it won’t be long until they do.
3. Stance bar can’t be hidden. Why not? If I play a Druid it’s not hard for me to see I’m in cat form. It’s called looking at the exact center of the screen - if anything it’s easier to see it that way than to look at the stance bar! I get that for warriors this might be different, but I don’t care. Why can’t it be hidden?
4. Bag and backpack can’t be moved. Why not? Why must they be there? Maybe I want a damage meter there. That wasn’t unusual in the past - many people had it there.
5. What’s with the vertical/horizontal thing? Why not just have 1 through 12 rows? Weird design.

Now, why am I bringing these points up in particular? I’m bringing them up because none of them are missing features. Every single one of them were deliberately chosen by exclusion for no bloody reason - that is it isn’t things that they didn’t think about it, it’s things they thought about but thought they knew better and created some completely arbitrary restriction. The default is complete nonsense as well. I mean who actually wants 36 buttons arranged in a 3-by-12 grid? You’ll never be able to see half of it!

And then there’s stuff like the talent panel with more wasted space than actual space for talents, the fact that literally every panel has a different size and design, tabs within tabs, the lack of DR display, etc.

Can we, as a community, have a heart-to-heart with these UI writers? I mean it’s nice that they’re overhauling the UI, but they’re frankly making it worse like always. They need to be stopped before they can do more damage.
