New changes for Frost and Unholy DK in 10.1.5

  • DEATH KNIGHT
    • Ghouls summoned by Raise Dead now inherit 85% of the Death Knight’s health (was 50%).
    • Death Coil healing increased by 75%.
    • Blood
      • All ability damage increased by 8%.

PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER

  • DEATH KNIGHT
    • Abomination Limb damage is now reduced by 50% in PvP combat.
    • Empower Rune Weapon’s Haste bonus is now 33% effective in PvP combat.
    • Frost
      • Developers’ note: We’re making updates to Frost Death Knights in PvP with the goals of a rewarding the spec for uptime by increasing its overall sustained damage and lowering its reliance on cooldowns.
      • The base Strength increase from Pillar of Frost is now 40% effective in PvP combat (was 60%)
      • The stacking Strength increase from Pillar of Frost is now 50% effective in PvP combat.
      • The Mastery increase from Frostwhelp’s Aid is now 50% effective in PvP combat.
      • The Frost damage increase from Bonegrinder is now 50% effective in PvP combat.
      • The Frost Strike damage increase from Shattering Blade is now 50% effective in PvP combat.
      • The Remorseless Winter damage increase from Gathering Storm is now 50% effective in PvP combat.
      • The Remorseless Winter damage increase from Everfrost is now 50% effective in PvP combat.
      • The Strength increase from Enduring Strength is now 80% effective in PvP combat.
      • Frost Strike damage is now increased by 45% in PvP combat (was 30%).
      • Obliterate damage is now increased by 20% in PvP combat (was 8%).
      • Obliterate damage is now increased by an additional 60% when Killing Machine is not active in PvP combat.
      • Remorseless Winter damage is now increased by 80% in PvP combat.
      • Howling Blast damage is now increased by 30% in PvP combat.
      • Frostscythe damage is now increased by 50% in PvP combat.
      • Glacial Advance damage is now increased by 50% in PvP combat.
    • Unholy
      • Developers’ note: We’re making updates to Unholy Death Knights in PvP with the goals of a damage profile that comes from active gameplay and the spec being less reliant on cooldowns. We’re also making some quality-of-life improvements by removing the PvP reduction on Virulent Plague, increasing pet survivability, and addressing Raise Abomination being a mandatory PvP talent.
      • Raise Abomination has been removed.
      • Army of the Dead is now usable in arena and rated battleground matches.
      • Army of the Dead now summons 4 ghouls instead of 8 in PvP combat.
      • Apocalypse now summons up to 2 Army of the Dead ghouls instead of 4 in PvP combat.
      • Army of the Dead ghoul damage is now increased by 20% in PvP combat.
      • Ruptured Viscera’s Festering Wound application chance and explosion damage is increased by 100% in PvP combat.
      • Dark Transformation’s damage increase to the Death Knight’s primary pet is now 50% effective in PvP combat.
      • Virulent Plague’s duration is no longer reduced by 45% in PvP combat.
      • Festering Wound damage is now increased by 310% in PvP combat.
      • Death Coil damage is now increased by 125% in PvP combat (was 18%).
      • Scourge Strike damage is now increased by 30% in PvP combat.
      • Clawing Shadows damage increased by 30% in PvP combat.
      • Reaping is now 67% effective in PvP combat.
      • Reanimation now deals 10% of the enemy’s maximum health (was 15%).
      • Unholy Assault Haste bonus is now 50% effective in PvP combat.

So…. Its gonna be better or still trashy?

I am not getting my hopes up. On Reddit/r/worldofpvp there is a discussion about the changes and someone put it pretty well in my opinion. He stated that the DMG increase is not going to outweight the nerf on cds

Yea, but offensive cooldowns nerfed hard.

The power is getting put back in to the death knight . the ghouls should just be bonus dmg dk burst every 3 minutes and i can counter it with blinding light which i have as a 1 min cd damage buffs to the death knight its self is better. Pretty much got most of the things i posted for except for the healing spell haha xD

A mix of nerfs and “buffs” that are going to end up as nerfs in the long run

Its already 118% (18% typo mistake). 118% to 125% not really big buff.

If you taking half my ghouls and buffing 20% I want them to be out more often, 8 minutes should be halved. With cd mechanics will be around the 2-3min mark.

Don’t think it will change much, DK will still be the most unpopular class together with monks in DF.

Unholy damage might be really good, however, they will nerf it the next day then people will start complaining. Will need to test on PTR. So far Flarkness is happy about changes.

Deathstrike healing or lack there of still also needs addressing. Terrible in PvP.

We get a buff to Death Coil healing, its something.

For me they just swapping the way how we do damage. That’s mean we need to stay more in fight And spam rotation and buttons. We are the lowest mobility on the game. We need rework in core dk build and making ur survival better.

New Pvp talents spellwarden, bloodforged armor(it didn’t bring any solution on mele damage), if they monitor, are boring spells and nobody play.
Reanimation triple nerf (nobody play). So why they bother to work in something that is fail and introduce as “New.”

As I wanna to be hype for DKs and be positive but ATM the changes seems lazy work, at least is something. And even if for a chance we will be mid tier strong,will Nerf to the potion we are.

Frost will be so bad, only way to win is to kite and spamm death strike trying to survive for next pillar so u can win.

Why even buff remorseless it’s only used for stun every 1 min, makes no sense.

Only good thing is howling blast by 30% that’s about it, all other things is a nerf.

Pointless changes .
Why are they tweaking damage ? Damage feels okish and will probably be better with tier sets .
The problem is being tunnel target for every single game .
All defensives suck . You have no way to outlast a direct burst .
Dampening kills sacrifice , pact and Death Strike .
DK needs a way to deal with burst damage , and something that shifts the dependency away from Death Strike because of said dampening .

Also rework Breath Sindragosa to always be 10 second plus 1 second for every 10 runic power spent during the breath . It is a end talent and it is actually dps loss to take it , because you have to stop doing Frost Strikes .

Lastly please stop forcing two hand game play .

this is such a signature class from the best expansion and yet one of the worse classes in the game, only good for raid and MDI (1 spec out of 3).

At this stage I’m starting to feel that there aren’t any. The class balance devs prioritise other classes and when they got some free time they give DK a quick look.

what i dont realy get why glacial advance or frostscythe ? glacial advance would make sense if u would bring back the shadowlands s3 set bonus

  • better solution would be that frosttrike would also fire of a glacial advance - this way u also can spent on aoe runic power for icecap + shattering blade could get finaly good value , frost has no ms and needs the burst , i mostly play caster and even i have to say that it is in a poor state , both speccs ( sorry for blood dks but tanks in arena are a different story maybe some reworks for rbgs would be nice )

when u focus a dk in a caster cleave , there is something wrong , also the removal of the rune of spellwarding talent was a good step in a melee meta but this season it would be needed very much .

overall the changes overall i think it looks good for unholy but on frost i am very confused ,

why do tuning on

and why , if u want to push sustain and dont mention frostfever ?

not a dk main but think dk ( most frost ) needs some love for 10.2
