With the new level squish and the fast paced leveling speed in where it is possible to level to max in a day, I feel like it doesn’t give much room for new players to learn the game. I think Blizzard did a decent job at crafting Exiles Reach to be a nice hand held experience through the basics of questing and learn a little bit of your class to send you off confident enough to quest i the open world, however thats about it. There is far more to wow than that.
One thing I want to focus on is the dungeoning experience, it is rather possible now that a new player could level to 50 without setting foot into a proper dungeon. Which would leave all of their learning til end game which is not a healthy learning environment as most players expect the others to fully know how to play the game, their class, their role, the common boss mechanics, and to go as fast as possible. What if a new player wants to play a tank or a healer?
While exiles reach was good the mini dungeon at the end of it is incredibly weak. As you could all go in as a dps and whack the boss. I think blizzard need to consider more ways to teach the new player of how to play their 16 year old mmo. Which brings me to my idea.
I think at level 10 a pop up should come up and and give them a detailed explanation of the roles tank/healer/dps and ask the new player what they would like to pick, set them up with the right spec, providing the class have those roles. And then put them into an instanced dungeon instantly on their own but with a party of ai npc’s. We know blizzard have the tech for that as they were in the island expeditions. So say the new player is a paladin and selects tank. They will automatically be set as prot and put into an instance with ai dpsing and healing the new player. And then the instance could give them a step by step on how to tank what abilities to use, when, and how to deal with threat. They should make it a full dungeon experience too. Which would serve to help the player learn how to tank through dungeons correctly. After they have completed that instance from there on if they want to continue doing dungeons there should be an option to go with the ai bots or with real players, and make it so that they have that option throughout their first time leveling to max level. Once they hit max level on their character the ai option will go away.
I think this could really benefit the new comer greatly and allow them to properly get up to speed without being thrown to the deep end with players.
